I grew up in a very science-y household. Before I could talk (and barely walk), I was squatting over puddles in my rain boots. My three siblings and I spent our youths mucking out barns, riding bikes, and going on camping trips.
I learned interesting things about the world by holding onto our electric fence (it was mostly to keep the horses in) and pouring oil-based paint from the top of our yard, which spread beautifully across our 50-acre farm (sorry, environment). Needless to say, I was pretty sure I had found my calling.
That was all fine and well, until... I went to an art shop with my dad. Then all bets were off.
I found myself strangely compelled to buy art supplies. Yes, in EVERY... SINGLE... colour.
I would stand in front of the oil paints, fancy drafting markers, and pencil crayons. And you know what? I didn't know how to use any of them.
Still, they ended up in my hot little hands and stored safely in my overly-organized desk.
In the end, I became a teacher.
I know this doesn't match with my story above, but if you know me, you understand that I've always taught. This included "teaching" my younger brothers during summer vacation and actually assigning them homework. At least it was from my favourite book on the natural world.
If you've read this far, you may be as confused as I am about what I "should" be doing with my life. I am a science teacher, which I truly feel is my purpose.
Life changed for me a couple of years ago, and I found more "quiet" time on my hands. The perfect time had arrived to finally explore my creative and artistic side.
So here I am, sharing my journey with you. And being the teacher and scientist that I am (I stuck an MSc in biomechanics somewhere in there), I'll make sure you learn a little about our planet along the way.
