I am Heather C. Williams, author of the book: Drawing as a Sacred Activity. I began drawing early in my life. It was my way of learning about the world around me and the world within me. (My kindergarten teacher told my mother to support me in drawing. Apparently, I was drawing all the time, she said!)
I graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Art & Humanities from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh. I worked as an Art Apprentice for 5 years with Norwegian Master Artist, Jan Valentin Seather, and I share what I learned from Mr. Saether in my classes and in my book. For 12 years, I led drawing exercises around the world for the Louise Hay International Teacher Training. For 18 years, I was an Art and Special Education teacher, for middle and high school students in the Vista Unified School District. I also taught drawing to university students, to people in jail, homeless people, people with developmental disabilities, people with manic depression, traumatic brain injury and people recovering from drugs and alcohol.
Drawing is an ancient human activity (more ancient than writing). Holding a pencil and drawing what you see connects your unique sense of touch with your unique sense of seeing. We each have a unique way of sensing the world around us and we each have a unique way of drawing out our Soul, Spirit - Creativity. Our outer world is, in truth, an expression of our inner world. Drawing is a safe, effective way to connect consciously - with our "outer and inner" worlds. I look forward to sharing the journey of drawing with you in my upcoming Fall 2023 Drawing Class.
PS: I call myself an “Ontological Artist”. What is this, you ask? Well, I am a High Watch Mentor in The Prosperos School of Ontology. The word ontology is made up of two words: Logy = “the study of” plus Onto which means “existence or BEING”. To me, the Ontological Artist is anyone who listens to their heart and studies their Inner Being (Soul) and draws out creatively, what they hear, feel and learn.
