Hi - I'm Doug. I love airplanes and math.
Why are my courses so cheap?
I believe higher education should be available to those of all economic circumstances and geographic locations.
My pre-recorded classes grew out of the pandemic that forced higher education to go online. I wanted to extend my reach to students who don't have the opportunity to attend a traditional university. Students at US universities pay as much as $11,864 for the course content included in my pre-recorded classes. In comparison, these courses can be accessed here at a 99% discount.
With nearly 8 billion people in the world and a growth rate of about 80 million people per year, we need to look at sustainable methods for educating larger numbers of people at more economic prices. I hope my work is a step in the right direction.
Through my study of aircraft design, I have grown to love the beautiful mathematics behind aerodynamics and flight mechanics. These analytical solutions grew out of intense work by aerodynamicists that were well versed in physical laws and mathematical principles.
With the development of the computer in the 1960’s and subsequent improvements to hardware and coding structure over the past 60 years, much of the aerodynamic research shifted to computational methods. Although extremely important and useful, these computational results cannot provide the same level of insight into aerodynamic phenomena as analytic solutions.
In order to solve the toughest challenges that lie ahead for the aircraft design community, we must have a better understanding of the fundamentals. Such an understanding will enable mankind to make significant progress in supersonics, hypersonics, turbulence modeling, unsteady vortical flows, flapping flight, and other challenges.
My goal is to provide world-class aeronautical education available to all who would like to contribute to the design of future of aircraft or aerospace research.
