Background info about this course

The provisions in the PDPA relating to the Do Not Call Registry came into force on 2 January 2014, and the main provisions in the PDPA relating to the collection, use, and disclosure of personal data came into force on 2 July 2014.

Amendments to the PDPA were implemented in phases pursuant to the Personal Data Protection (Amendment) Act 2020 (“Amendment Act”). The first batch of amendments came into effect on 1 February 2021, introducing a mandatory notification requirement for data breaches and new grounds for processing data without consent. The increase in the prescribed maximum financial penalty under the PDPA will come into force on 1 October 2022. 

The Personal Data Protection Act (PDPA) provides a baseline standard of protection for personal data in Singapore. It complements sector-specific legislative and regulatory frameworks such as the Banking Act and Insurance Act. The PDPA recognizes both the need to protect individuals’ personal data and the need for organizations to collect, use or disclose personal data for legitimate and reasonable purposes.

After passing the national privacy law exam, candidates will be issued a GADPPRO Academy Certificate of Completion (CoC) plus a Certificate of Registration (CoR) in the EU Register of Data Protection Professionals (EU-RDPP)
