This activity is based on the 26 unicorns from the “Magical Elements of The Periodic Table Presented Alphabetically By The Metal Horn Unicorns” book. Each unicorn acquaints kids with its own unique elemental magic as well as its amazing everyday uses. Alumna starts things out by introducing the very necessary metal, Aluminum, on her element card. Dr. Zinko rounds out the alphabet by presenting facts and other fun information about the metal, Zinc, on his. The Metal Horn Unicorns say, “No Metal – No Magic and No Technology”.
Using the sample Unicorn Elemental cards provided, have students select an element from the Periodic Table and a Unicorn Elemental Card Blank to create their own Unicorn Elemental Card. The blank and sample cards do not have to match.
You will receive a pdf containing all 26 sample cards and 26 blanks to be printed on 8 1/2 x 11-sized paper or card stock. The pdf also contains a Magical Unicorn Elemental Research Sheet for the students to work on before creating their unique Unicorn Elemental. They will also write a short paragraph describing their Unicorn Elemental from that research.
Note: The Metal Horn Unicorns from Unimaise are featured prominently in fantasy books, for all ages, written by Sybrina Durant. Get them all at Sybrina.com.
Access to a computer for research would help. Students may either draw their own pictures or cut and paste clip art onto the Unicorn Elemental Sheets.
