Background info about this course

South Korea’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) was passed in September 2011 and became one of the strictest data privacy laws in the world. Regarding the scope of application, the South Korean PIPA is applicable to a data handler. In the South Korean PIPA, a data handler is considered to be a person who, by himself or through a third party, handles personal data to make use of any operation on a personal data file in the course of its business activities.

The amendments to the Personal Information Protection Act (“PIPA”) has come into force on August 5, 2020, and the amended PIPA includes the transformation of the Personal Information Protection Commission (“PIPC”) into a central administrative agency.

The purpose of this Act is to prescribe how personal data is processed in order to protect the rights and interests of all citizens and further realize the dignity and value of each individual. The Act aims to protect personal data from unnecessary collection, unauthorized use or disclosure, and abuse.

After passing the national privacy law exam, candidates will be issued a GADPPRO Academy Certificate of Completion (CoC) plus a Certificate of Registration (CoR) in the EU Register of Data Protection Professionals (EU-RDPP)
