A self-help book for ‘the thinking person’ doubles up as a critique of the self-help genre. The motive for writing this book was to try to write self-help content that was decidedly different from that in many other self-help books by providing inspiring, realistic, and reassuring self-help material that was not dumbed down. To this end, I have selected a number of ‘bread-and-butter self-help themes and explored them with reference to personal indulgences such as philosophy, psychotherapy, science, poetry, psychology, sport, literature, song, and spirituality. I hope that the outcome inspires if not transforms. - Fergus McGrath (Author).
