"The Art of Storytelling Composition in Photography" presentation is a deep dive into how photographers can craft compelling visual narratives through composition, light, and post-processing. This 90-minute session explores the core elements of storytelling—subject, emotion, context, and timing—while analyzing the techniques of masters like Robert Frank, Dorothea Lange, and my personal work. Attendees will learn how to use framing, depth, and color theory to create powerful images, as well as post-processing methods like tonal adjustments, burning and dodging, and contrast control to enhance storytelling. Through case studies, interactive discussions, and practical exercises, photographers will leave with actionable strategies to elevate their work and create images that resonate.
Born in Moscow, NATASHA CALZATTI spent her early childhood in Jerusalem. She later immigrated to Los Angeles, where she graduated with a BFA from Otis Parsons School of Design.
Natasha Calzatti honed her chops in the slums of Beverly Hills, photographing a galaxy of urban stars for the likes of VIBE, THE SOURCE, and NEWSWEEK. Her keen ability to capture stories, attitudes, and moods in her documentary work soon landed youth-oriented commissions for STARTER sports apparel, GIRL SCOUTS OF AMERICA, and stills for WORLDCOM’S “Generation D” television spots. Her work has led to numerous gallery shows in Los Angeles and garnered awards from Women in Photography International First Prize in the Professional category for “Jump, Trailer Park”, in which she captured the simplicities and sweet eccentricities of trailer park youth, as well as a nomination from NEWSWEEK for the Alfred Eisenstaedt Awards.
Natasha is currently working on several photo essays and shooting editorial assignments for the New York Times and other publications.
