About the Class

Heather's Drawing Class - is for people interested in developing their creativity.

What will you learn in this live class?

  • In this class, you will expand your visual thinking and develop greater hand-eye coordination.
  • You will experience seeing old things in new ways - and you will connect your inner and outer world in a meaningful way.
  • You will learn the skill of observing the world without naming, labeling, or judging what you see.
  • You will also learn to use your "other" hand to draw out your imagination. (See below examples of both observational and imagination drawing.)

Drawing is an ancient activity that can help us to take charge of our attention. (Our attention is our most valuable asset.) Today our attention is constantly blasted by advertisements, social media, texts, emails, and breaking news. We live in a blizzard of information. Drawing is a safe, effective, inexpensive way for us to free ourselves from the prison of our "Word-built-World".

Come. Let's draw out the unique, creative seed that lives deep within our hearts and Soul. Think about this: Holding a pencil and drawing what you see connects your two valuable senses: touch and seeing. Our outer world is, in truth, an expression of our Inner world. Drawing is a safe, effective, and very ancient way to consciously connect “outer and inner.”

Every class begins with a brief meditation - offering insights about perception. Every class has one or two drawing exercises - and we end every class with a simple exercise. In class #1 we share briefly our stories and what we hope to gain in this class. In class #2-7 we will focus on the 5 KEYS to observational drawing - focusing on the world around us. In classes #8-13 we will focus on imaginative drawing - focusing on the world within us (memories, hopes, dreams, intuition). In class #14 - we will review and discuss moving forward.

  • Pen = ballpoint pen is ok. Sharpie pen is ok.
  • Pencils = graphite pencils - 2b, 4b, 6b, 8b.
  • You need to bring a sketchbook or paper.
  • You need to have a good internet connection.

  • Log in 5 minutes before each session.
  • Bring your curiosity and your willingness to see in a new way.

Most people feel that they cannot draw. Why this is - I don't exactly know. But there seems to be some kind of idea that drawings must be perfect to be acceptable. The truth is that there is no person on earth that is perfect. There is no artwork that is perfect. Perfection is not the goal of life and perfection is not the goal of Drawing as a Sacred Activity. So I guess when you take this class you will find yourself letting go of the idea of perfection.
