About the Class

Join us on our spring outing to Scorpion Anchorage on Santa Cruz Island.

  • Date: March 26, 2026
  • Boat: Island Packers, departing Ventura Harbor at 9:00 AM (arrive 45 minutes early for check-in)
  • Return: 3:30 PM from the island (arrives Ventura 4:45 PM). Book both outbound and return trips for the same day.
  • Tickets: Reserve early at https://www.islandpackers.com/book/ventura/trips/ as boats fill up quickly.
  • What to Bring: Dress in layers, bring water, and lunch (no facilities on the island).
  • Hiking: Trails range from easy to difficult. All trails have some elevation change. In all cases, choose a pace comfortable for you.

By attending a Channel Islands Professional Photographers Association (CIPPA) event, you acknowledge that some activities, such as outings, workshops, or safaris,s may involve physical exertion, including climbing or long walks. Please consider any personal health concerns before registering. Participants agree to hold CIPPA and the Event Coordinator harmless for any injuries, death, or loss of property (including camera equipment) that may occur during the event.

Requirements

Additional Information:

  • No facilities exist on the island except for 2 bathrooms
  • Be sure to bring lunch, snacks, and water
  • Dress in Layers, it could be sunny or foggy
  • Bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses
  • You will have to carry everything, so pack carefully
  • We will schedule a meeting prior to the trip to discuss our plans and gear
  • Cell phone coverage is very limited, and typically nonexistent on the island
  • Recommend having a GRMS radio to keep in touch with the group, and always pair up with someone
  • Don’t go off on your own
  • If you miss the last boat, you will sleep on the island
  • Trails on the island are varied from easy to difficult; in all cases, there is some elevation change, and you should walk at a pace comfortable for you.

  • Watch your weight, you will have to carry your equipment all day.

  • 24 to 70 mm like Zoom
  • 70 to 200 mm like Zoom
  • Light Tripod
