Hello, it's Rob here from Rob cabin calm. And I don't need to tell you that the publishing world has been turned on its head in the last few years. As you know, traditional publishers going out of business and book shops have closed down on mass. But at the same time, more books have been sold than ever before. And the difference is Amazon's Kindle, which is a ereader for digital books, and the ebooks that are read on it also referred to as Kindles and the proliferation of other ebooks and E readers out there on the market. So people are now reading more digital books than physical ones.

And this is a trend that will continue. Now, I think that anyone that is looking to create a brand and build an audience online should write books, and I really want you to consider this if you haven't thought about it already. I'm talking about a certain type of news. nonfiction Kindle book that usually costs $2 99 and contains 10,000 to 14,000 words. Now, that is not a lot of writing. So you can do it, you can write a book, and I'll be showing you how to, and it's a habit and a muscle, just like anything else.

So, for example, me when I started blogging, I would write 200 to 300, word blog posts or articles. But nowadays, I write one blog post a week, and it's usually over 1000 words. I don't try to write 1000 words, but it usually takes me 1000 words to say what I want to say. So what I'm trying to say here is that if you continue the writing habits, you will find it easier to write greater numbers of words per day. And if you can write 500 to 1000 words a day, you have a book by the end of a fortnight that's ready to publish on the Kindle Store. This is huge.

And not only will this improve your writing, this will also improve your creativity. Because you'll be coming up with new ideas, the more you write. Now I want to show you how you write a book now. And it's very easy. There are five stages. First one is the idea, the idea for your book, then you plan it, then you research.

You get all that out of the way. So you can write you go to the writing stage. And you should get that out of the way as soon as possible. It's actually the easiest stage of all, and it's also called a word form it I apologize for that expression, but I'll explain later on, and then you edit before you publish. So let's go through the stages of writing and publishing a book one by one. So first off the idea.

Now remember, not only will blogging help you with creativity. It will also help you with subject matter. As I said earlier, you will discover which subjects people find the most interesting by observing how well different blog posts do for Google Analytics and social sharing. This is huge. This is how you find out what your audience wants to read about and what products you need to create. So carry on blogging, it will teach you lots about writing a book.

You could base a Kindle book on a series of blog posts if you wanted. Easy, I like to create unique content Kindle, at least at first, because if you are exclusive to Amazon, it means you can take advantage of the KDP Select program and i'll come on to that later. But the next stage is planning. Now all you have to do is plan out your chapter titles and inside that chapter titles should be subheadings. So maybe you have 10 chapter titles, and in each chapter, maybe about five subheadings. So you can get that down on a piece of paper, you might want to mind map it, but it shouldn't take you more than a couple of hours.

But it's very important to get your plan out first, because this will help you when you come to write. If you know what you're writing next, it means you spent less time staring at a wall with writer's block. Another thing that will help you later on is to research your book, first of all, and what I mean here is to get your facts and figures right. If you want to include any quotes from important authority figures in the niche of the book, then you should google these and copy them down on a piece of paper in a text file or something. If you need any facts and figures, again, Google them and copy them all into a text far. So the object here in the planning and research stage is to get everything done before you get to the writing stage.

So that's the writing stage, you do it, you get up every morning. And ideally you write 500 to 700 words, if you're just starting out 1000 to 2000, if you're more accomplished in the writing habit, so just get your head down and let the words come out. Don't edit while you're writing. Just write and don't worry about how it sounds. Don't worry about the spelling. Don't worry about anything.

Just get that word count out every day. And by the end of a fortnight, you'll have a book done. But the editing stage is extremely important. You should read through it at least three times yourself. And this is really where the magic happens because this is where you can perfect the sentence structure. You can swap two sentences around in a paragraph cut out repetition, there might be as much as 20% or 30% of your words that you'll need to cut.

And so the reader has a nice valuable read through every chapter. Lastly, you should read it out to yourself aloud, that really helps. And then after that, you should give it to a third party. It would be great if you could find a professional editor on oDesk or Elance to do this for you, or a friend, but you should never leave the last editing process to yourself, because you will miss spelling mistakes and other mistakes. So always give it to someone else when you've done and that's it. You have written your book, but unfortunately, I'm afraid that's not all the work.

In fact, it's not even half the work because the book promotion starts now. In fact, it is already started because you should start your book promotion. When you start writing, you should tell everyone on your social media groups and on your email list and in your blog, that you are writing a book on a particular subject. Don't keep it secret, tell everyone about it. Because this is amazingly valuable audience research and marketing and promotion. You ask people what they think of the title or the subject of your new book.

And you'll get invaluable feedback from people. People will tell you what they think people will tell you what they want you to include in the book. And then they will feel a part of the project. And they will evangelize about the project. And that's good promotion and marketing for you. But also their feedback is important and you should listen to it because it's great market research, but we'll be coming on to book four Emotion later in other videos, but I hope you enjoyed this video, which is about how to get started.

And this is the most important part, how to get started in book publishing. So you can publish yourself as a recognized and valuable high reputation author and an authority in your field and this is marvelous for building your brand and making money. Okay, this is Rob from Rob carbonite.com. I'll see you in the next video.
