Self publishing is not only a great way to make a bit of passive income. It's also a fantastic way to promote yourself and build your brand. My name is Rob from Rob coven calm. And now I'm going to explain a little bit about how to promote your Kindle books. And there are some smart ways you can do that. First of all, I'm just going to show you the word document of my last Kindle book.

Now at the moment, I've got tracks changes on and this is just to show you how much getting an external editor, a professional editor to have a look at your book, just before you publish it can be so these are the changes she made. That did cost me somewhere between 100 and $200 for that, but you can get editors much cheaper or you can ask a friend to do it for you. I'll just turn these off now. But at the top here, there's something really important. So there's a bit of a blurb about the book. In the introduction, I'm talking about the benefit to the reader of buying this book or reading the rest of this book.

But then I direct them to my website and my free newsletter, where they can get copies of free ebook PDFs on starting an online business or learning how to market yourself online. There are also two mp3 is about online business, as well as a list of my favorite tools and there's the link where they can get that and as you know, that will take them to a squeeze page where they have to enter their email address in order to get these freebies. So very important that you put that in the book, put that in the beginning the first 10% and put it in the end as well. You might even want to direct people to your website halfway through obviously they stick it everywhere through the book, but it needs to be there prominently at the big Getting, why does it need to be at the beginning?

That's because if we look at the books page on Amazon, here's the page for my book that I've just shown you the word document of, if you click look inside there, as you know, on Amazon, you can read the first few pages. And once we get past the table of contents, we can read the introduction. And there is the offer for the books, we can click through that on Amazon and go to my squeeze page where people can enter their email address and get on my list so people can get on my list without having to buy the book. So this is huge. You get loads of signups this way, and signups to your email list are as good as money in your pocket. These signups increase hugely on your free days if you use KDP Select as well.

So that's one point of Amazon promotion. Another you have to remember is sign up to author central you get here by just going to author central calm. And that will redirect you to author central.amazon.com where you sign in again with your Amazon ID and you fill out a biography for yourself, upload your image, connect to Facebook and Twitter etc. If you have it, connect to your website very importantly, and connect your books on Amazon if you have any. And every time you write and publish a new book, you have to add this book, because then you get your Amazon author page which has all the information about you where people can follow you and see all your books. So don't forget to do that as well as signing up to KDP amazon.com.

That's author central.amazon.com. Another thing you can do for book promotion, as I was saying earlier, is it starts when you write the book You share your ideas with your audience, the people you've liaise with in social groups on social media, or your audience for your website, your email list, even your friends and business associates in real life. A great place you can do this, although you should keep promotion down to zero is Pat Flynn's Kindle group on Facebook. And you get that by going Kurt's first book, p 80. s one s t book calm, and he set up a redirect that goes to this Kindle group. Here is the Kindle publishing Facebook group. It's a fantastic group.

There are an awful lot of authors on this group that are absolutely crushing it on Amazon selling thousands of books every week. But here you'll see people asking questions about their books, saying what worked saying what didn't work. Something I was doing here is here's an example of that. show people Examples of covers. And here, this guy's got three covers. And he's asking everyone which one's best.

You get great feedback about titles this way, and people will know what work they will give you a suggestion for a title with more keywords in it with keywords that you hadn't thought of. They might even give you suggestions for categories, you can put it in Amazon. But more than this, there are loads of other Kindle groups on Amazon. And I'll have a list of them for you with groups here and scroll down you'll see I've got loads of Kindle groups here. You can promote your book in those Kindle groups during the free days and you'll get huge amounts of downloads. You can even promote your book in packs group, but let's go back to pets group.

See the rules here. You may only share your books with the group if you add something of value with it a tip strategies story experience etc. So don't forget Get to give some great value tip when you're promoting your book and only do it once for every book, because that group should be handled with absolute care because it's a fantastic group. And it's not a place for self promotion. But you can do it once. So now I'm going to go through the Kindle free launch strategy.

That's when your Kindle book on Amazon is registered at KDP Select. So you have five days in every 90 days where you can have that book on for free on the Amazon Kindle Store. Usually you do this a few days after you publish. When you publish the book. You don't really do very much. It's called a soft launch.

But you wait for the book to connect with the paperback. If that's what you're doing. It doesn't matter if you just want to do Kindle and not a paperback that's okay as well. Try to get as many reviews and purchases from your friends and family. followers as possible. But the real business happens a few days after you published six or 10 days after, where your book is for free.

And then you would have sheduled a lot of free promotions to sites and Facebook groups that specialize in promoting free books, and you will promote it yourself as well. And then after a few days, you don't have to use all five of the days you could use two or three if you wanted. But on the last day, at 12, noon, PST, you raise the price to 99 cents. And then you will get on the bestseller ranking categories and your book will start to sell properly. So this is the free launch on Kindle. So there is a bit of a procedure for your publishing and promotion of your new book.

As I say it's already started. You've already got everyone interested you've sent off free copies of your book, this is very important. Send off free copies of the book to people in your circles in your groups that you think will find it the most useful, and they are the best people to send the free copies to. So you've already done that. As you can see, the word document goes to KDP Select, as I've shown you already, you also should create a PDF and publish a paperback book on create space, create spaces owned by Amazon, you'll find it at create space comm so you publish on these two platforms, and within a week, there'll be combined on Amazon. So once that's all done, wait about a week because you need to inform a lot of websites and I have a list for you of your free days coming up.

So the free days will be booked in. So this is what you do here. After you've combined the Kindle and the CreateSpace paperback on Amazon. Just get ready for the free Promotion days and notify all the websites it will take you two or three hours, you can outsource that if you want to. And then when the free days starts, that's when the hard work really starts because you should then notify all the Facebook groups. And most of them you can do this every day on and tell all your friends tell all the people that you've supplied the copies to that have given you feedback, send PDFs to really high authority people in your niche saying this book is out for free now, can you tweet about it?

Can you share this on Facebook, and just really go crazy for those five days because what you want is to get the maximum downloads possible. And this should give you at least 2000 to 3000 downloads of your free book and at the end of the last free day at 12 o'clock noon Pacific Standard Time. You should stop your five free days early. And then once you've done that, you will be a best seller. I've done this many times, and I've reached the top of the Amazon charts in a particular category. And then you can call yourself a best seller.

You can say I'm an Amazon best seller. And in the book blurb you can say it's a best seller. So here is a diagram of how the sales go. One thing I forgot to mention, of course, you should always email your list. That's the most important promotion that you'll ever do. It's so obvious, but there's a good way of doing that.

And I want to tell you that now and as you can see here, there is a real spike where I emailed my list now that was at the initial stage when we were just getting ready for the free days it was on at 99 cents. So I had to make sure I told my email subscribers that the book will be for free in a week's time. However, if you can't wait for the book, please buy it at 19 sense. And please give me a review. Remember to ask everyone for a review. At the same time, always ask the evangelists, the people you've sent the free copies to for review, as well as to ask them to promote it during the free days.

So you can see the spike when I emailed the list, and then you can see the sales dropping for the free days. And then you can see the sales going up hugely after the free days selling as many as 30 copies that day at 99 cents. Later, of course, I put the price up to $2 99. But the sales keep coming in at around 10 a day. Now this isn't a great huge amount of money. I've got the royalties up here, you'll see that I've probably only earned 13 $14,000 from that one book in the period of three months.

So not a lot of money because you only get $2 for every time it's sold at 299 you get it Hardly anything when it's sold at 99 cents, but it's all about creating your band, you have links in that book to your email list. And once we get onto video products, we will also put links to your video products, which are much higher value products. So remember that the Kindle is the beginning of a funnel, it's lead generation as much as it is making money because you get people on your list and you get people interested in your other higher value products from it. So I hope you enjoyed that lots of ideas there. There will be an accompanying PDF for this. So don't worry, I would strongly advise you to have this Kindle promotion set out ready for when you publish your first Kindle and then after you've done that, it will be easy for your second third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth ninth, 10th Kindle Because remember, with all of these things, persistence is the key.
