Hello, this is Rob here from Rob cabin calm, I'm going to show you how to write a book, you're going to write a book in a Word document or in a Google Drive doc. And it's going to be in a format that will be best for then converting into an ePub or mobi or an E book file, and also a paperback book. So it's very easy. Let's get going in Google Drive first. So in Google Drive, we go new Google Docs. This is going to be exactly the same as in Word, but I'll show you I'll show you in both.

So we'll go chapter, title and text. So you notice I just started typing there, and I put one return in between the two lines. So in chapter title, click on that you don't have to select it, just click on it. Go up here to where it says styles and no text and select heading one, your chapter titles should be a heading one style. The text can then be written there, and more text underneath one return for each paragraph, don't do two returns. And then if you want a subheading within a chapter, you can make that a Heading Two, you can even have a sub sub heading as a heading three if you really wanted to.

So that's the most important thing. The last thing you want to do is go chapter title and then select it and make it bold and make it bigger and a different font. That's ridiculous because it's not the way the E pubs work they work as I will show you later with markup to show the headings and everything else. The style is determined by the reader the reader increase the font size themselves and they will change the font if they like. Your job is to make sure you know which of the chapter titles which are the subheadings. And all the other formatting, which would be bold, italics links, numbered lists and bulleted lists and things like that.

One more thing to tell you for chapter two. So let's say that is our chapter two starting there, we should go insert page break, and then make that of course heading one because it's a chapter title, and then start typing text. So always put a page break in between each chapter. And you do a page break by going insert, Page Break. Okay, let's have a look at one I did earlier. So here's the first page.

Not very important, but there is the title. There's the contents page, you'll notice that's empty contents page is a heading one, but don't worry because you will get someone else to do that they can do it much easier and quicker than you can. There's my first chapter introduction and it's a Heading One Of course, there's text. I've imported images there by doing a new return and insert image and then choosing the image on my computer for your E pub, you will instruct the guy that's making the pub to optimize the images. So there is subheadings and more images. bolts that's just done in the same way as it's done in any word processing package.

And same with here are bulleted lists same with italics, and links. So the links are done with this icon command k of course Command or Ctrl k also In the same way as you create links in any WordPress existing package, and that will convert into the ebook. Okay, let's go to word. We'll go word, new document Command or Ctrl, n and same again chapter one, one return text, start writing your text. In chapter one, you click on it and go heading one here, one return, there's your subheading. That should be in the heading two style.

Another return and write text in normal style. See the normal style up here. Same again, insert, break, Page Break, and then you can start your chapter two. Heading One, text should be separated by one paragraph return subheading if you want them should be Heading Two style, same again texts. And so it goes on if you want to do an image insert photo, picture from file, they're both metallics, links, of course, you just select the text you want to link and command K, and then link that to a website that you want. That's all you've got to remember, you should just start typing away after you've made your plan for your book, of course, and that's all you need to remember.

Here's what I did earlier. As you can see, there is a subheading heading to more sub headings, there's a link there's an image, there's a page break, and it starts again with a chapter title or a heading one. So there is a Kindle book and you can upload this word doc to KDP amazon.com. I will advise it because you will see some formatting issues. Much better to give this document or this Google Drive document the link to a person who can create an E pub. And I will show you an E pub Now, here is an ePub and mobi, EPUB and mobi are very similar things you would need either or the person who did it for me has given me both but I will only need one of these to upload@kdp.amazon.com There are many ways you can view these documents.

And I will show you a few of them now. First of all caliber CL IB r e, if you Google that. You can download caliber there. It's free, Kindle previewer. Google that. And you can download that for Mac or Windows.

Another really useful free bit of Software is called center Kindle. And you can download that from Mac or PC. Then once you've installed that, you can just drag any document whether it's a PDF, a Word file, or a Kindle, mobi or an ePub to your center Kindle app, link it with your Kindle. And then you can read that document on your Kindle for free. And that's a very useful free app feather. You have a long PDF that you don't want to sit and read.

You can just put it on your Kindle and read it there. But I'm going to view this Moby in caliber and double click on it, upload it there and double click on the title there and now we're viewing it in the caliber ebook viewer. So I'm gonna check if it's okay, I'll just use my cursor keys to spool through the pages and they all look great. This table of contents has been created by The person who created the pub or the mobi? The ebook, and he would have done this very easily because all you've got to do is choose the H ones and the H twos, because I formatted it correctly, the Table of Contents is easy to create, they don't have to create it manually. All the point of doing this is making sure that the formatting of your book is correct.

So it is easy to create the correct formats of the E book and the paperback. So they don't have to redo everything again. There's no formatting that he's done. He's just taken the formatting I've done and put it into this EPUB so I know it will definitely look great with no formatting images on any device that a customer cares to view it on. one extra thing to show you every ebook viewer has its own table of contents. Hear that they can access via the interface of the device that they're using.

This is different from the other table of contents. So there's two tables of contents there, and the person who's creating your ebook, we'll know to create both of them. But it's really up to you how you want to do it. Of course, as I've said, you can also upload a Word doc, and in Google Drive, all you have to do is download the Google Drive doc. And that will download the document as a.do see x as a doc, and then you can upload that to kindle. But as I say, I would not advise you to do that because it will have all sorts of formatting issues.

And just lastly, I'll show you how the Kindle is created. If I take the E pub and open it in signal, and I'll have other videos showing you how to Create e pubs in signal. This shows you the way that the pub and the Mobius set up. It's very clean HTML. So there's just p tags around the paragraphs, course the headings have h1 tags. And the heading twos have h2 tags.

And that is all taken from the formatting that I did on the Google Drive doc. So it's very simple. And if you really wanted to do it, you can do it yourself. But I find it's better to get someone else to do it, who knows what they're doing. But the most important thing is to create the document that you're writing the book in correctly with the formatting I've just shown you, the H ones, the H twos, the page breaks and get a good person to create an E book for you and indeed, a paperback book for you. So you can supply the correct format to the correct place and have your book published in the correct way.
