First off, there is a lot of blood. For awhile. Check out the module on signs and symptoms to see your doctor so you know how much to be concerned about. Otherwise, it's normal to be alarmed by how much bleeding there is. You will also feel your uterus contracting which sometimes feels like you are still in labor. This is especially true when you breastfeed. The let down of breastmilk facilitates contractions which is good because you want the uterus to return to its original size as soon as possible. Breastfeeding is always a struggle at first. Both you and baby are getting used to something neither of you has ever tried before.
