Hello, and welcome to the course. What is emotional intelligence? And what's in it for me? Hi, my name is is Jordan, and I will be your emotional intelligence instructor and coach for this course. You probably heard about emotional intelligence. It's a hot topic right now even though it was officially introduced over a century ago.

I am a certified emotional intelligence coach and chapter chair for the society of emotional intelligence in Chicago. I'm a certified instructional designer for online education. And my day job is executive Project Manager for a large technology company. As you can see in this diagram, emotional intelligence touches all aspects of my life. I became interested in the subject of emotional intelligence years ago while attending a management training course and work. I found a topic very interesting, because the instructor immediately began to explain how much more successful and happy emotionally intelligent people are in their professional and personal lives.

I began following all of the emotional intelligence gurus, Dr. Daniel Goleman, Dr. Travis Bradbury, Dr. Hank Clemens, and others learning as much as I could about the subject. The objectives of this introductory emotional intelligence course will focus on what's in it for you. We will start with the definition of emotional intelligence. We will discuss its life impacts and benefits. Next, we will learn about the scales and sub scales of emotional intelligence. We will follow that with a discussion about What emotional intelligence is not?

We will begin by exploring the concept of thought awareness. We will complete several pause and think exercises that allow you to personally reflect on your experiences and thoughts, building a deeper understanding of your feelings and emotions, identifying triggers for the emotions, and considering the impact that your emotions have had on your work, and your personal relationships. We will pause and think throughout the course to consider what we've learned and apply the concepts to real life situations. The project for this course is to complete the personal project worksheet as you go through the pause and think exercises. This is your personal document to be used to capture your thoughts and in the process reflect on your personal behaviors and skill sets. So in summary, by the end of this course, We will have answered the question, emotional intelligence, what's in it for me and provided you with a foundation for learning more about each of the emotional intelligence skill sets in future courses?
