DESCRIPTION:

What you need to do for walk briefings: (Hikes or Treks)

Include the duration, destination, conditions, terrain, climate, and level of difficulty.
Preparation: if at all possible, get to know the walk yourself by doing a recce - if you know the walk your group will have more confidence in you. Allow more time than you think you'll need. Walk at a slow pace but keep it regular.
Find out about alternative routes in case of weather changes, plan something else if its severe.
Appoint a leader and backmarker (issue them with a whistle too).
Tell them that if they get separated from the group they should stay put.
Show your group your whistle and explain standard signals: 3 short blasts mean emergency or accident, so stop immediately.
Check everyone has the correct equipment, water, and so on; anyone who has bought new boots for the tour should have tried them out first.
Remind them that you carry a first aid kit, though they should have their own antiseptic wipes and plasters for...
