Be clear and direct - don't waffle. Be relaxed and friendly. Choose the correct 'code' of language for the situation - e.g. don't use street language unless you're talking to a bunch of street kids. You don't need to be 'cool' - you are the leader, not a mate. You can make a joke or two - especially if there are children present - but don't try to be a comedian - that's not what you're employed for. Never talk down to anyone, including younger people
Stand tall, maintain eye contact. This doesn't mean you have to look everyone in the eye - rather, look at the 'third eye', the position just above the nose- it's more comfortable for the other party. Be aware of body movement - your body language is at least as important as what you have to say. Don't fidget, wring your hands, sway around or pace up and down, but stay calm, stand comfortably and naturally
