DESCRIPTION:

Scenario I
On arriving at your hotel at 19.30 for a 1 night stay you find out that it is overbooked and they don't have rooms for you. You are all tired and hungry after a long bus journey. They know of another hotel an hour's drive away but it is more expensive.
How will you pay for the upgrade?
What do you do first?
First, ask the hotel if the group can have a meal while you call the alternative hotel. The group's well being comes first. Many tour operators use a voucher system to pay hotels so you can simply ask for the vouchers back and ask the alternative hotel to accept them. You could ask the original hotel to make up the difference in price since the overbooking is their responsibility. If not you could try to negotiate a special rate for your group at the new hotel (i.e. the same price as the original hotel) as by 19.30 they probably aren't going to sell the rooms anyway.
