DESCRIPTION:

Part 3

Be aware that everyone interprets levels of difficulty differently. Be specific when you describe a walk to your group. Don't just say 'on a scale of one to five, this walk is a three'. Say instead ' this walk involves about 100 meters of steep ascent, on a rough trail with stones underfoot, and shade every 20 or so meters, then it evens out and is quite flat for about two kilometers. The ascent is quite hard but the views from the top are spectacular'.
Tell your group you are not specialist walking guide or mountain guide (unless you are)
If possible, change the walk route to suit your group's ability - but beware, remember you have to deliver what the brochure describes.
If you have ambitious people in the group you can suggest a diversion with an easily identifiable meeting point (for example a nearby summit) - slower walkers can take the least demanding route. Vary who you walk with - don't always choose the fastest nor the slowest, but take into account the terrain...
