DESCRIPTION:

Giving Tips

Advise on how much per person per day everyone should contribute.
You can record record how much is in the kitty, the start date and details of subsequent 'withdrawals' to pay tips, the amount and to whom paid and, and the balance.
This should be an 'all or nothing' situation - either everyone contributes or no one (and they all give their tips individually), otherwise resentment can build up.
Hand out enough small envelopes to put the tips into. This avoids handing over cash and so save any embarrassment. You may not know in advance how many guides and drivers you will use during the tour, so make sure the kitty is enough for a few extra people - you can always buy a drink or snack for everyone with any money left over.
Remember hotel porters as well as drivers, guides and boat crew, and remember guides should get roughly twice the amount a driver gets (they have to train for longer).
Tipping is not obligatory, and a poor guide needs to know where s/he could...
