What to do during a Reconnaissance
Meaning:

to inspect, observe, or survey (the enemy, the enemy's strength or position, a region, etc.) in order to gain information for military purposes.
to examine or survey (a region, area, etc.) for engineering, geological, or other purposes.

So this means you will:

Visit hotels to inspect rooms and if you have the rooming list, to allocate rooms. If you will be staying a long time or returning frequently, negotiate a discount.
Check out restaurants- size, price range, and menus, plus distance to walk from hotel or cost of taxi. Are they used to groups? Will they offer a discount? Ask local policemen, builders and bus drivers for cheap but good quality restaurants (the hotel may have a financial arrangement with a restaurant and therefore be biased)
Visit the local tourist office to check on museum etc., opening times and any unusual or seasonal events, or festivals
