DESCRIPTION: A stiff and frozen rib cage restricts the movement of the diaphragm, our major breathing muscle, thus resulting in a reduced volume of breath and causing emotional numbness. As you may have experienced many times in life, the moment you stop yourself from feeling (e.g. in a situation of emotional overwhelm), you stop or interrupt your breathing. On the other hand, if you want to feel more you breathe more deeply (e.g. releasing a deep sigh in a moment of pleasure or relaxation).
Over years of consciously or unconsciously controlling our emotional expression, our diaphragm becomes tight and stops our life-force energy and sexual impulses from reaching the heart and the heart&rsquo;s impulses from reaching the sex. A chronically tight diaphragm can keep us locked in the lower energy centers, unable to assert and express ourselves consciously and confidently throughout our lives.
