DESCRIPTION: At the early stage of learning, it is strongly recommended that pupils should be taught only sounds and not letters. This is to avoid confusion. However, at the later stage, when the learner advances in learning (after learning sounds in group five); the introduction of letters is thus recommended. This is necessary to prepare learners for the next stage of learning i.e. learning of the alternative sounds. This is because possession of the knowledge of letters will be required at this stage.
