DESCRIPTION:
Running the shoot day
Woah - Being on set can be overwhelming and a day will really slow down if the communication and methods of accomplishing tasks aren't somewhat regimented.  Things move fast onset and the closer you get to the camera/set - the faster that production whirlpool spins. Make sure the team of leaders you have - AD, DP, heads of departments - all have a chance to be heard but ultimately, the 1st AD runs your day. Ahead of production, you've met them, gone through the schedule, discussed the days, and what has to be accomplished. As soon as you step onto the production set your 1st AD should have a plan for how to make the day (get everything on the schedule done) and should be communicating that plan to every department.
If you didn't catch everything the first time - watch it again. And check out these definitions to understand some of the terms we use in this episode:
Term: Blocking

This is when we bring the actors on set with the director to begin running...
