Exposing an image

Exposing an image used to be the most important job of a cinematographer. In the days of film, with no onboard monitors, and only being able to see what you shot come back the next day or later. You and your light meter were the only ones on set that truly knew that an image was being captured. This gave the position of Director of Photographer a certain almost god-like status that is only beginning to erode now as digital cameras flood the market and everyone can actually see the damn image you are trying to capture.

Exposure is still an incredibly important principle of Cinematography with its key aspects broken into 3 main sections:
ISO / ASA / EI, Shutter speed (or angle) Aperture
