What is the best way to communicate your thoughts?

Along with being a master collaborator, you are also a master communicator. Being able to communicate with each department in their language is a critical skill. 
To navigate communication, take the time to listen to each member of your team. Absorb what your cast and crew are saying and understand their motives. All great leaders are great listeners first. 

Remember to communicate your message in the right tone. For example, I tend to talk to my cinematographer like an excited kid in a candy store. My optimism ignites his, and in return, this creates the fuel that propels the production. I also tend to communicate with storyboards, hand gestures, and even sound effects. You'll hear me say stuff like "In this shot can the whoosh into the frame?"  The dynamite trick here is to find the right language that translates specifically to each person on set.
