DESCRIPTION:

Block, light, shoot

This is the order of operations from the moment a scene is set up (by the production design, wardrobe, VFX, etc) to when it is ready to shoot. It flows in the following way:

Block: Have the actors play out the scene and plan their movements to dictate the camera and lighting setups, as well as the areas that the art department has to dress and what we will see of their outfits and makeup. Basically show us everything so that we may know how to shoot the scene.Light: All the technical departments get exclusive access to "the floor" and can prepare all the gear and set dressing necessary to accomplish what was seen in the blocking.Shoot: Now that everyone is finally ready - shoot the darn thing - but be sure people have had the chance to all declare they are ready first.
Rehearse: Before shooting it is good to run a rehearsal as it is genuinely possible that an hour or two have passed since the blocking and everyone needs a little practice run for their cues...
