Be realistic with what you can accomplish

Plan B can be better than plan A. Just because plan B wasn't your first choice doesn't mean it's not the better idea. In most films I've worked on, plan B seemed to weave its way forward and slid into being the final decision, and the result was always something I was happy with. 
Don't get lost in a fairytale, be realistic with yourself and the project. If you can't afford it, think of a creative solution. If you can't think of a creative solution then go back to the drawing board.  The truth can sometimes suck but it's the best way to get stuff done.
