Hello, it's Rob here from Rob coven.com. So we've talked a bit about setting up our domain name registrar, and our host. And we've put the hosts name servers into the domain name registrar to connect the two up, and we've set up WordPress. So, time to talk a little bit more about blogging and WordPress. So the best content management system for your website will be WordPress. WordPress is a 10 year old open source software, which has been developed and maintained by thousands of volunteers around the world.
It was originally blogging software, but now it powers 20% of the world's top 200,000 websites. So it's the predominant content management system on the web. Now I need to make an important distinction here between wordpress.org and this is a software We will be using. As we have a self hosted website, we've bought the hosting, and we've bought the domain. And I'm not talking about wordpress.com, which is a blogging platform that you can use, where you actually blog on somebody else's server. And it's not as powerful.
It's not as easy to customize, and it's not what we're using. So if you've done a one, click Install at your host, then you would have installed the software here@wordpress.org. If you're using wordpress.com, or blogger or any other blogging sites at the moment, don't worry about that you can easily transfer all that over to your self hosted wordpress.org website. But you will want to use a self hosted.org website at the end of the day, because that's the one you'll be able to build your brand on and customize exactly the way you want it to be. So I want to talk a little bit about keywords here. Now keywords are what people type into search engines when they want to find something.
And we all have keywords that we want to be found with. So when I started, I wanted to be found with freelance graphic designer London, because I wanted to get freelance graphic design work, and I lived in London, but your keywords will be something else. Another thing to say about keywords is that you want buying keywords. So freelance graphic designer London, they were kind of buying keywords, because people would have entered them into Google if they were looking for a freelance graphic web designer in London. So if they were looking to hire someone, that's what they might have keyed in to Google. So they were buying keywords.
So if you look at the Keyword Planner Tool, so if you just enter a keyword into Google, and the first thing that comes up is the Keyword Planner Tool. This is a free tool from Google, but you need Have an AdWords account in order to use it. So here search for a new keyword or group of ideas. And here enter your keywords and click get ideas. Don't worry about this page so much just click on the keyword ideas there. And here straightaway, we will see that freelance graphic designer London is being searched for 480 times a month.
Now you might find that graphic designer is being searched for 18,000 times a month, freelance graphic designer is being searched for 2400 times a month. However, freelance graphic designer London will be searched for 260 times a month. So you can see what I'm doing here. The more specific this search, the less times it's being searched for per month. And why is that good? Because you are more likely to rank on the first page of Google with a keyword phrase that is being searched for less than 300 times a month.
So the less popular it is, the easier it is to rank for. Another tool you should use is Google Analytics. So if you search for analytics in Google, and you can set up an account and drop some code into your website, I'll show you how to do that. On another video. You can see who is visiting your site, and what pages they're looking at. So here is a page from yesterday, and I had 745 visitors for Google.
If I go to acquisition, keywords organic. Here we can see some amazing information. And obviously you get more of it if you're looking at your stats after a month. But here is some of the keywords that have been keyed into Google from people who have ended up on my site. So you see that free social media site HTML is there. And also you will see free youtube channel art, self taught web design is another good phrase and teaching yourself web design.
The reason I'm picking out certain keywords here is because these are keywords that I am actively targeting. So keywords from people who I think will find my goods and services useful. And here's the another one if I was imagine I was a flyer or brochure designer. What should I charge for flyer and brochure design? That would be a very good keyword or key phrase to rank for. And as I'm getting traffic from these sources and these keywords, I know that I'm doing something right.
This is not only to show yourself that you're doing something right it can also teach you about what people want Maybe they're landing at your site with keywords that you don't think you are satisfying, but are keywords that you would like to write a blog post about. And if that's the case, then this is fantastic audience research for you. So it's a little bit about some of the tools that you can use when you blog. We're going to go on about blogging a little bit more later. But there's the Keyword Planner Tool and Google Analytics. However, I don't want to confuse you with tools just at the moment, because the most important thing is for you to get blogging and do it consistently.
Because the more you do it, the better you'll get at it. And the more you'll learn what your audience is wanting to find out about, and once you know what your audience wants to find out about, it gives you all sorts of ideas for further blog posts and further products that you can create which will bring you more traffic and more income.
