Hi, I'm Ramona McLean and I am an illustrator. Thank you for joining this class. I'm super excited to take Raphson with you, your human self emotion. So first, I wanted to show you my process that I went through to make money. It was definitely not an easy process. So it's a bit difficult for you.

Don't worry about it. It takes my character definitely did not look like it does now at the beginning. So for years, I wanted to make my own character comics. Every time I go to do it, it's just I didn't like it was ugly. It wasn't it didn't feel like it was me in a character trying to show what I wanted to show Wanna silly fun, but everything I drew was to detail. got worse.

So I wrote down the pencil and do something else. But it wasn't until I started copying other people's comics, get the feel of it, and understand how with me that my stuff actually started to get better. So a few years ago, I attended an event called dance. And that's when a bunch of artists like me, so their artwork, and yeah, I saw this one booth. It was so good. I've named Zoe C's.

I will link everything in the information below. But her drawings are so silly. so dirty I come immediately. I loved it. When I got home that night, I started drawing a bunch of her drawing so I can understand how to draw them. And so at first you feel a little bit like you're just calling them and then you get worried and stealing all her stuff and then I can do that and then she's gonna hate me because it's all your stuff.

Don't worry if so first I started copying hers. Then I started copying some Adventure Time. So Muppets, other characters that I saw on Instagram that I really like. So I'm building up sort of a library in my brain for how to draw these characters, different eyes, different arms, different faces, different shapes, just trying things out. Then after that, I put everything away. All we've entertained all those always these cartoons, everything, and then just use my own imagination.

At first, it kind of sucked. They were not the best drawing, but I knew that I was closer than I was in the past. So I kept going. Now during this time, I wasn't really enjoying my storyboarding work, because I wanted to make my own stuff. So And use the comics as sort of an outlet to get rid of my frustration. So I draw super weird poses and me most the time just being like, Oh, I don't want to be here.

But to help that it took me out of my comfort zone, and I started playing shapes. And the characters started looking super funny. And it actually helps and help me at work helped me deal with the struggle of being at work, but I didn't want to be at work. As the months went on, my character started to change. Her eyes got a little bit different poses got different shape got different, everything sort of tightened up the way I wanted it to work, and in a way that would show my emotions better. Then I started to play with real life versus cartoon stuff.

So take a picture of a background. Whether it was like something Really small or like normal size, and then I would draw my character on my iPad. On top of that background. What this did is it brought magic and fun to my everyday life. And that's sort of when I was hooked. And after that I just drew that character on everything, though some days, my character would start to look really stiff and boring, and I'd always draw the same pose.

So to get out of that I take my sketchbook and open it up and draw just one page full of my character, and it has to fit into every little spot, so forced me to get out of my comfort zone and draw really weird poses. So now that you've learned about my process, get ready to learn about yours.
