When you step on stage to do public speaking, for some people, what can happen is you suddenly don't know what to do with these people often ask me, what should you do with my hand? Well, the answer is, just relax. Try not to think about it too much. The best way to gesture is to be natural to gesture as you would in conversation. If you want some pointers, though, then rest your hands or think they were over the top of a chair about that height, and then just gesture outwards from there. Don't do what the politicians do you and do choreographed hand movements, because you and I both know, nobody try them.
Try to let go of thinking about it and just gesture as much or as little as you need to to make your point. If you're in a bigger face, then perhaps gesture more from the shoulder. So make bigger movements and say that people can see you and it shows up on photograph. And on film, because that can help you later for social media. Don't point aggressively just like you wouldn't in conversation, and just be aware of what you're going to need to hold. Will you be holding a microphone or some notes or a clicker to change the slides.
Think about how much your hands are going to need to be occupied before you get on stage. And then just ensure that you're comfortable enough to express yourself and I'm sure you'll gesture just fine.
