When it comes to engagement, one of the things people have most worried about is how can I make my voice more interesting in order to be more engaging? A lot of us are worried that our voices dull or monotone, but we don't know how to do something about that in order to change it. Well, let me tell you one brilliant trick that I learned when I was at drama school. There is a thing called vocal inflection. So the way that you are inflecting your voice means is it going up or down in its melody, and it's chewing if you like. I'm very passionate about this because I think this is really an exciting thing that you can do with your voice.
Start to notice the tune that you're making when you're speaking. One of the biggest mistakes that people make is not necessarily to be monotone, because to be monitoring would just be one note like this. And that's very unusual that people are just on one note, other than often very much so that what they actually mean by monetizable is that someone is usually downward inflecting too much. And that means that they're going down like I'm doing now, in that tune, they are downwardly inflecting on each word pretty much until we're all dead. So try to avoid that. It's not fun for anyone.
And it sounds a bit sad or depressed or do as my mother would say. So let's see what we can do about that. Can we keep the inflection either flat or up through the whole sentence and only go down at the end. So if you listen to my voice, you'll notice that I often bend a note and I will go Hmm, like that with a note. So will you be flat or like that might be a little bit bent a bit kinky, if you will. So the idea here is I only go down when I get to a full stop.
Just like that. People say they could listen to me all day. You might disagree. So the idea is to keep it chewable. And this really does take practice, because it doesn't come naturally to all of us. But if you listen to my voice now, you'll realize how melodic it is.
And that is why it's keeping people interested. It's like I'm keeping a ball of energy in the air all the time, vocally, until I said, that's the end. So have a go at this pattern of vocal inflection keeping the ball in the air all the time that you're speaking, don't need to go up all the time. That's the caveat here. We're not all Australian. So we don't want to sound like always asking question.
Do we like that doesn't always have to go up, but it just needs to have a variety of tune and only go down at the end.
