About this course
For clarification, I'm not discussing common herbs such as basil, oregano, thyme, and so on although those are important healing agents. I dedicate this course to those "misfits" of Nature: dandelions, yarrow, lamb's ear, mugwort, and all the other plants we deem as ugly and annoying.
I started teaching in libraries in 2016 to reach a different audience; my normal teaching gigs were in the yoga studios, organic markets, or other spiritual establishments. It's easy to explain the importance of herbs to yoga students, but the general public deserves the same information. Most people think "weeds" are invasive. a plant we spray with noxious chemicals. Few understand how healing they are.
I wrote this course for all of you yoga students, entry-level herbal students, natural foodies, health fanatics, and well... everyone else who needs to relax. In this course, we'll discover 6 herbs you may find along the roadside or in your backyard. 6 herbs for relaxation because well. it's what we all seem to need. peace of mind.
When you finish this course, you'll have a new understanding of herbal medicine, its benefits, and how to incorporate herbs into your daily life. We'll look at other healing benefits of these 6 herbs, too.Â
Most importantly, I hope to inspire you to end your use of weedkillers such as RoundUp. If you wish to get rid of herbs, mow them or hand-pick them. No need to poison the rest of the ground, just to get rid of a few "pesky" weeds. Remember, those weeds are food and medicine for wildlife, too.Â
We're finding weeds are more resilient and require more and more deadly chemicals to extinguish. Trust me, I worked for one of the largest greenhouse/nurseries in Maine—I've seen how much more RoundUp we need each year to keep our grounds free of weeds. In the end, the weeds always won, and we were never free of them we only poisoned the rabbits, deer, groundhogs, geese, muskrats, ravens, ducks, and hundreds of other animal species that relied on our grounds for life support.
We don't need more chemicals in our soil, water, and air. Sit back, enjoy the presentation, and see how helpful your backyard is.
