Hello and welcome to lecture eight have become an author self publish your books worldwide I am teaching Russian was lecture eight preparing a Kindle book. This is an electronic reader released by Amazon, you can store hundreds of books in this device and carry them anywhere with you. In order to prepare a Kindle ebook, you will need a software called the Kindle create tool. This is a free download from Amazon. You can download this for Windows as well as Mac books from this site kdp.amazon.com. Download this software and install it on your desktop or laptop.

Next I will show you how to prepare a Kindle interior using this tool. The final Kindle interior generated from this tool will be in a special Kp a format that can be used only on As we shall now go to the nuts and bolts of creating a Kindle ebook I will open the Kindle create software now. I've already installed it on my desktop This is how the Kindle create dashboard looks like select new project from file, select the first option, choose file it accepts only doc and doc X Files. I already have a file that I'm going to show you. I'll open this the Kindle create will start importing My Word document into itself. Depending on the size of your file, it can take several minutes for the import.

Yes, my file is a small one so it is completed very fast. Click on Continue. Click on Get Started. As soon as you click on get started, on the left side, you will see a bunch of chapter headings that it has automatically selected based on the fonts available in your book. Just click Accept selected and we shall move. Now, the very first thing that you need to do is highlight the book title.

Go to the right side. This is called text property screen. Go to title pages, click on book title. The book title readjusts itself. Select the next subtitle, click on book subtitle. Select the author name.

Click on author name, but the book title and the subtitle and the author name are different pages. So we will just click here I'll press Delete, so that all the three Come on one page. Now I have the book title, the subtitle and the author name everything on one page. We'll worry about the contents. Later. I'll show you how to insert the contents short while from now, we just get into the text Matt, click on copyright page, click on the book start and end the pages portion here.

Click on copyright text. Yes, you can select the next sentence. Use some space here. Select the next one, give some space. Now we'll go to the individual chapters. These are where the chapter start.

Just click on the very first letter of the chapter. Come down to book body here. And I will select the chapter first paragraph as soon as you do this Chapter will go slightly below the chapter title and a drop cap is added. If you do not want such a big Drop Cap, you can just go to formatting and select a smaller one. Go to the next chapter. Again, select the very first letter, go to elements.

As soon as you click on chapter set subtitle it will change the color also, probably To save the file periodically, please save it immediately so that you don't lose all your formatting. Just accept the defaults, it will create a sub folder and it will save the project. Now though the book is still not complete because it doesn't have a table of contents Now I will show you how to insert a table of contents. I will go to this place and click Insert table of contents.

It will automatically select all the chapter titles and all you got to do is click OK. But you cannot resize this you have to accept the default. I'm going to remove this portion because no use now the Kindle book is almost complete. Keep saving the file If you want you can also change the colors of the titles, chapter titles. Let's go to formatting. You can reduce the size if you want and selected different color also if you want to change your favorite color change the profess can change it to smaller size.

You can give it a different color. But these colors may not be visible on all countries that are available on Amazon so I suggest to play with this a bit carefully. Keep saving the file. Now how do you know that your book is properly formatted for Kindle. For this, Amazon has given a free preview or within the Kindle create software. But before we go that, I will also show you how to insert an image into this.

Let us assume that you want to insert the cover image also into the same file. Go to go to the very first letter, click on Insert Image I have the cover for this book in a JPG format I just insert So, let us select the full size so that it looks good. It keeps saving it this is how you insert an image into the file. Now I will go to the about the author portion at last and show you how to insert the author image. Remember, all files will have to be only in JPG format. I'll click at the first letter.

Click again image, select my photograph normally to come and sit at the center, but if you don't want it at the center, here are the positions. For example, if I click on this position, the photo will readjust to this area. Yeah. Keep saving the file. Have a look at everything to see if you have done the Drop Cap for every chapter. Classes left to you, if you want to have colors you can have, but I recommend that you don't have four black and white books because it may not look proper on all Kindles because some Kindles are just black and white.

And if you use multiple colors, it can become a very dull gray on those chapters. So now let us go to the preview at this click on preview, the preview will open. This is how your book will look like on a tablet. So I'll come down, click on Kindle editor. This is how your book will look like on a Kindle e reader. You can go to the next, next.

Next. You can also auto navigate by clicking here. You can also reduce the speed if you want a little bit or else you can navigate manually. You can also change the font size, the bigger font to see how it looks. Like RT a very small font because a Kindle reader will allow you to resize your fonts. So, I will look at end to end multiple types to see if there are no mistakes you can use this slider to come back.

Now you can close the preview. Now the next thing that you got to do is you have to save this into your kpfa. For this Amazon has given an option called publish. This is not publishing on Amazon but this is publishing into a kpfa. Just click on Publish. It will prompt for a copy a file name in the same folder where your Word file is.

Just click Save. No you can if you click the Show kpf will find one file called whatever your book name dot kpf file. This is the file that you use to upload on Amazon. That's it. This is how you create a copy of it. If you install the Amazon previewer Kindle previewer you can directly double click on this file and open it but that is not necessary because the Kindle create tool itself has a preview.
