Hello and welcome to lecture four, have become an author, self publish your books worldwide. I am David Rasheed was lecture for grammar for authors. Most newspapers, academic papers and textbooks don't use dialogue. That is conversation and this is why most of us don't learn proper punctuation and grammar for writing conversations. Now, as an author, trying to write a novel, it's very important to write dialogues correctly. If your dialogue structure or punctuation isn't right, that regardless of how great your book is, you'd be considered as an amateur.

Now why is grammar so important? I'll give you an example. A prisoner was supposed to be hanged. He had applied for a pardon from the president and was pardoned. At telegram was sent to the jailer to release him. But due to a small mistake in the position of the comma, he was accidentally hacked.

See the sentences below and give not comma, release him. This sentence would have got him released, hanging, comma, not realism. This got him hanged. This was the sentence that was in the telegraph. So the jailer misunderstood the sentence and hanged him because as per the sentence, it says, hang him, not release him, because the position of the comma was in such a place where he could easily misunderstand sentence. Now you can see why correct writing is so important.

Grammar for others. punctuation is a mechanism for the reader to separate spoken words from other parts of the sentence. What if your English teacher reads your amateurish book someday? wouldn't she be shocked? This is why I have collected a bunch of basic tips on how to punch a deluxe. Though I am not a grammar expert, the below tips will immensely help you in framing dialogues.

Pay attention to my yellow font highlights what is dialogue and tagline? Let us take an example. I would like to go to the library tomorrow. She told him as they left the building. Dialogue means the words spoken by the speaker. I would like to go to the library tomorrow.

Now the tablet tagline or words that identify the speaker like he told she told in this particular sentence. She told him as they left the building This is the tablet. The whole sentence is the dialogue. Now we'll take another example type of sentence, a single line of dialogue that has one tablet example. I would like to go to the building tomorrow. She told him as they left the building, I'll explain the punctuation with where you should put your comma.

Put a comma after the dialogue ends, and before the closing quotation mark, the first yellow point in the sentence with a period. Also the tagline she told him as the left the building doesn't begin with a capital letter since it is part of the same sentence. This is why the letter yes in she is not in capitals. type of sentence, a single line of dialogue that has no tablet, he hated you like hell. here for the punctuation method, the entire sentence, including the period is within the quotation marks. Similarly, even question mark or exclamation point has to be within the quotation mark like the examples below.

Who is he? That is stupid. See the yellow highlights. They are all within the closing quotation marks, type of sentence to dialogues interrupted or joined by a tablet example. I have made up my mind, she said nodding. I don't want to go there.

The punctuation method, a dialogue can be interrupted by a tagline and again resume in the same sentence. In such cases, put a comma inside the first set of quotation marks and put another comma after the tag line, this is done because the entire sentence is spoken by one speaker. If you look at the sentence, there is a comma immediately after mind and immediately after nodding and there is a full stop at the end. Separating the table into two sentences will also work. The first sentence will end with a period and the second sentence will begin with a capital letter like example below. I have made my decision see said nodding, full stop.

Don't want to go this type of sentence identify two speakers. However you say john, I'm fine replayed Nancy? The presentation method. Always start a new paragraph for a new speaker. What is first, second and third person? First Person means I, we me, US my mind.

Our our second person means you you are and your third person means he him his she heard hers, they them, they're theirs. It's depending on the type of book, choose the first second or third person method for your writing. First Person, the category first person refers to the writer himself. When you write your sentences using words like I, we, me yes and so on. Then you're using the first person method. Some examples using first person or I am going home to eat my dinner.

Our maid is going to cook my favorite dish. We were walking down the street when we noticed a tiger coming towards our house and both of us cream. The first person method is mainly used for autobiographies personalizes memoirs and so on. Second Person writing in the second person uses words like you You are adverse. Here the author will be directly addressing the reader. Some examples are, you should never write when your brain is tired, you should improve your style of writing.

Nonfiction and advice type of books should be written in second person to make the book resonate with the reader. Sentences written in second person will appear as if your book is advising or speaking to the reader. For example, reading a sentence like you should take two last glasses of water when you're stressed. sounds much better to the reader than I take two large glasses of water when I'm stressed. Third Person the third person refers to others writing in the third person uses words like he she did them and saw some examples or he hit her with a break and she started screaming When the neighbors noticed this, they started chasing him. As soon as they started running the police started chasing them.

Now also usually written using third person method However, a book may use all the three types depending on the story or what you're trying to explain. sentences to avoid. Avoid beginning each sentence with letter A as it looks stylish, rearrange the sentences so that it looks better. That the examples below the bad way. I ran out this case, I hurt my heart pounding. I could hear the monster running after me.

I reached for the door. I could not open it. I got rated the good ways. My heart pounded as I ran down the stairs with the monster galloping behind me. A few feet ahead was the escape door, but to my horror, it was locked. On Morrison's example, I looked at the clock.

I thought it was four but it was already fun. goodwill, my eyes glanced at the clock and it was already fine and not for as I had thought. Avoiding button and in starting a sentence badly. Watching TV is popular at our house full stop, and we never miss any evening episodes. The good ways. Watching TV is popular at our house, and we never miss any evening episodes.

Another example, no job is perfect. First up, but often young people grumble about the working conditions. The good way for this no job is perfect comma, but people often complain about the working conditions.
