Hello and welcome to lecture two have become an author self published books worldwide. I am teaching receivers. lecture to how to start writing. What to write. There are plenty of subjects on which books can be written, but that doesn't automatically mean that you can write on any subject under the sun. Unless you're writing fiction, you must have some knowledge and clarity about what you are writing.

So choose your subject or topic carefully. Also think that you can really write 100 to 200 pages on the topic you choose. Because many topics are only suitable for articles and not full length books. First, pick a genre the below table is a high level List of the genre is available in the writing world, drama, fiction, nonfiction and poetry and the subcategories within each. The previous slide was only a high level info about generics, it doesn't mean these are the only ones you can write. You can write on any topic you want, if you can expand it into a book, also visit bookstores to see what kind of new books are getting published, and what generally are popular.

Top two books booksellers to get ideas and suggestions of what readers ask for. What is the latest fad? what genre of books are selling like hotcakes? What subjects do readers find interesting, then explore writing books on those subjects. For example, some popular books that can help people are motivational Self Help inspirational memos history cookbooks, biographies, textbooks, tour stories, scientific books, reference guides, travel guides, manuals religion, philosophy, spirituality, politics and so on. Such books can be read again and again.

You can also write books from your own experience or profession. For example, if you have worked in a chemical industry for many years, then you would have gained enormous knowledge that you can pass on to new commerce with your book. Or if you prefer fiction and imaginary stuff, then you can write storybooks, fantasy horror, mystery thrillers poetry, suspense, adventure, romance, science fiction, or any of their combinations. Next, who is your audience? Every book must be aimed at a specific type or category of readers, that is, you should know who and what age group you're writing for. In order to decide on what to write.

Ask whether your book topic has a local, national or international audience. For example, if your books also tackles a widespread problem, then it will probably sell more because such books have the potential to help thousands or even millions of readers. Also remember, your readers are only interested in what is written in your book and how it will help them they just want solution to their problems and are not interested in knowing you or your troubles. Hence, your books always cater to their expectations. Night unique books it is not always necessary to write popular rehashed editions of books that countless other authors have already written. Toni Morrison, a famous American author once said, if there is a book that you To read, but it hasn't been written yet, then you must write it.

Use this wonderful advice and explore writing on unique and strange subjects that no one has written before. It will be a real fun challenge to write a book on a subject that no one has written before. This will also improve your research and patient skills because you will have to hunt for information from many sources to fill the pages if you choose an extraordinary subject for your book. What not to write in your exactement to become famous quickly, you may get ideas to write crazy or dangerous books. But avoid all such temptations as it can land you and your family members in trouble. What not to write is even more important than what to write.

Often in your enthusiasm sentences can flow like a Mad River and you may write something horrible that you mentally think is funny or harmless. But it could be laced with trouble when reviewed carefully. So frequently pause your writing to view it from different angles and from the readers religious, cultural, traditional or values perspective. Remember, freedom of expression is not absolute and you will never know how readers will respond to your writings. People are subject to creators and not objective. You cannot always call a spade a spade and get away with it.

Don't listen to idealists. Many idealistic readers, writers and the clueless media often argue that authors must have the complete creative freedom to write whatever they want. The pen is mightier than the sword and swag. But we don't live in an ideal world. And in reality, the sword can cut off the hand that wields the pin data rating can result in threatened start rates. Remember what happened to Solomon trustee who had to go into hiding for several years because of an Iranian death rate for the Satanic Verses book.

Similarly, many others worldwide have been bitten, attacked, banned, deported, and even killed for writing nasty books. Also, be careful about writing humor, as it can backfire badly if you don't know certain rules. Don't make fun of religion, caste, race, physical disabilities, gender or language of anyone. humor in these areas can start whether it's on the streets or even started work. Also, don't use real names of people, friends, relatives, co workers, etc. You will never know how they may get offended.

Imagine writing a book on your cranky neighbor or colleague and feeling With embarrassing facts or fictions, without his or her permission. So if you like to write humor, the best way is always self direct. That is find the humor towards yourself that way you will not annoy anyone. Remember, people will love heartily if you make fun of yourself, but they may be outraged if you make fun of them. How to begin. Even if you have extensive knowledge on some subject or topic, it is not easy to quickly write a book on it.

Be a good author, you must also be a good reader and choose to write a book on some subject. first read three to five books that are similar to the topic you're chosen. also read many articles on the same subject, but your reading should be more intense and focused than a casual reading by intense hi mean you should carefully focus on how the information sentences, paragraphs, commas, quotation marks, dialog, story and chapters are formed. For example, some books will be all fluff or too difficult for the intended audience or not extend properly, or may use a dozen sentences to explain something that could have been extended in just five sentences, or may even contain many useless chapters just to fill pages, and so on. Also brainstorm on what is missing or difficult for the average reader to get in those books. That is, find out what the author has not explained in his or her book, but perhaps should have been intuitive.

Make a note of all such gifts and then starting writing your book. Then you should begin your book in your own style. How to begin nonfiction start asking questions Who how what why where, when, and saw. For nonfiction, begin by asking questions to yourself about the topic you are writing. For example, if you want to write a book on stress management, then start jotting down several questions like what is stress? Why is it Kurt who gets affected?

What harm does it cause, how to eliminate or reduce stress and so on? These are the basic questions that any ordinary reader or a layman will want to be answered. Then start answering each question. When you start writing, simply jot down all of your ideas and thoughts and start filling the pages. What I mean by this is you can just start scribbling and don't worry about the chapter names prefers acknowledgement, structure, etc. Initially, they can be framed and improved.

Once you have about 60 to 70 pages of useful info. Then reorganize the paragraph carefully so that your chapter contents becomes how to Begin fiction. For fiction, read a few novels of a similar type that you're trying to study how the grammar dialogues plots, characters and excitement in the story are framed at first and then try to mold your novel in a similar or even better way if you can. Study the sentence structures. Where has the author put the comma full stop opening coats ending coats, who said what? adjectives and so on?

Use famous quotes. It is a good idea to use interesting quotes from famous people in your book. For example, if you are writing a book on leadership, make generous use of quotes from famous people like Churchill, Lincoln, etc. Such courts are like sprinkling diamonds and can greatly enhance your book. But remember to mention the names The people who stated those codes, no copying from others. Never copy any chapters or paragraphs from any other authors book or website.

Always frame your own paragraphs and sentences even if you are extending an identical concept. Today with the availability of the internet, it is very easy and tempting to copy stuff from other reputed authors and write a book easily. But don't do this as it is illegal, unethical and stupid to copy somebody else's stuff and pass it off as your own. You may even be hit by lawsuits. If you mischievously copy some of famous author stuff. Ask yourself if you would like someone to copy your stuff falsely, claim it as their own writing and make money.

Also, today, publishers use powerful computers with special software that will compare your manuscript to thousands of other books to check if you copied from them. In the past, this exercise was not easy, but today you can easily get caught if you blatantly copy from others. Fair Use. Sometimes when writing nonfiction, you may want to reproduce a small portion of something that is copyrighted. In such cases, you have to abide by the Fair Use law. In copyright law, there is a concept called Fair Use that allows you to make limited use of copyrighted work without taking permission from its author as long as you adhere to some rules and cite the sources.

The idea behind this fair use concept is that if copyright laws are too restrictive, then it will strangle free speech news supporting us result in stupid penalties for minor or accidental inclusion. But, as far as possible, you should completely avoid using any copyrighted material just to stay away from trouble. In case the copyright owner wants to create some mischief or of jealousy, or to extract some money and free publicity. When to write. Don't assume you can write every day, it is not easy to always set a specific time of day or week for writing large chunks of new creative stuff. Writing is a fuzzy sense and you cannot get inspiration daily or at specific times of the day.

However, you may set a specific time for editing and reorganize stuff that you have previously written. Also, ideas will keep popping in and out of your brain all the time. So always keep a pen and paper with you. And you get hit by an idea or an interesting quote, write it down immediately or else it will disappear forever. Later, you can include all those written ideas into your book. Remember the palest think is better than the most attentive memory.

When not to write. Sometimes it is just not possible to write even In a couple of sentences, even if you have the best brains in the world, this condition is called a writer's block when no fresh ideas will come into your head for days and weeks. When this happen, just let your overheated brain cooldown so that the creative juices start again. Take it easy, and the dark clouds in your mind will gradually disappear, then you can make up for the last day, don't get panicky that your brain has switched off permanently. The mind is a mysterious beast that will switch on and off automatically. To simplicity to simplicity or complexity.

When writing a book, there will always be a temptation to write in a pompous manner using complicated words and sentence. For example, if you see any word classic like Shakespeare or literature or many college textbooks, you will quickly notice such books would have been written in a complicated way that only top professors can understand. And not just ordinary mortals. Now ask yourself do you want your book to be read by a large number of people or only by a few brainy professors? Unless you're a megalomaniac, the answer will be obvious to a large number of readers. Hence, bring yourself down to the level of an average reader.

Think in their terms. Use the words and sentences that they can understand. eliminate all complicated words that ordinary people don't understand. Also avoid writing long, awkward sentences. Instead, split them into two or three sentences. The book you write must be easy and useful for a large number of readers.

Remember, you are writing a book for others to read and not to read it yourself. Example of a useless book. When I was in college, there was a physics textbook written by an extremely intelligent professor. The theory explained in this book was quick and short. Each chapter also had a few easy and simple salt problems. But at the end of each chapter, there were heaps of awfully complicated problems that no students could solve by reading the theory and examples provided in the same chapter.

To make matters worse, only the odd numbered problems had the answers without the solution steps printed at the end of the book. To make matters even worse, the professor would not solve those tough problems even in the classroom, and expected the students to brainstorm and solve on their own. Secondly, due to his ferocious Dr. Burke, most students would approach him for any assistance. To summarize the story, it was a bad textbook written by an intelligent professor who was unable and unwilling to realize that he was a bad author, as he was not interested in helping his readers. Soon every student realized they could pass no exam. If they studied only the tough textbook.

Fortunately, there was another professors textbook with clear explanation and fully solved problems, which students would quietly by to pass exams in the earlier tough textbook will just remain as an useless book fit to be thrown out. We now come to the end of lecture two. Thanks for listening. Please proceed to lecture three is to continue
