Hello and welcome to lecture five have become an author self publish your books worldwide, I am dead and rushing was lecture five, how to publish after a few months of hard work, you may say my manuscript is now ready. Good, now you have to publish it. The question is how there are two ways to publish independent and traditional also known as indie and traditional. Now which path is right for you? First let us look at traditional publishers. the publishing industry consists of one top publishers like Penguin, Random House HarperCollins, hatchet, and so on who operate globally to general publishers and bookshops.

Let us first consider top publishers. To get your book published by a top publishers, you must go through a literary agent. You cannot approach top publishers directly to review or accept your mask. Now who is a literary agent? This is a qualified person who will professionally evaluate your manuscript to see if it can be published. There are hundreds of agents listed on the internet, or you can buy a book or DVD containing a directory of all reputed agents worldwide.

Next, find out which agent will accept your type of book. This is very important because all agents don't accept all manuscripts since they specialize in only certain types of books. Hence, you must study each agent submission guidelines before firing your manuscript. For example, if you send a business management manuscript to an agent who deals only with gardening or romance books, then you will be simply wasting your time. Now, if an agent accepts your manuscript, then they will search for the right publisher, negotiate contracts, royalties advance and so on. After the formalities, the top reputed publishers will take care of the publishing leads, including formatting the book to various paperback and electronic sizes.

They will also distribute the book to various bookstores and other places and pay you a royalty as per contract. Now, you may think, oh, that's easy, I start right away. But I say Hold on. Now, let us look at the reasons why. Getting a top or even medium type literary agent is a Herculean task and here are the reasons. Top publishing houses indie agents don't look at new authors.

More than 99% of all submissions are rejected for a variety of reasons. Each literary agent has different add ons uncomplicated submission and rejection procedures. Most of them don't respond to emails or phone calls and prefer the traditional snail mail submissions with their turnaround time of several months for a reply. an aspiring author can spend months or maybe years just to get a fancy rejection letter from a reputed publishing house or agent. Most of the time when does not even get a rejection letter. Therefore, you do not know whether to wait or contact somebody else.

Now, even if a man script gets accepted, it will take at least 12 to 18 months to see daylight, with a strong possibility of it getting rejected or postponed at the last minute, because the chief editor did not like something about it. Though many reputed agents and publishing houses do not charge any money for the basic process, there are bound to be various hidden costs for faxing photocopying, mailing and so on. In addition, an agent may refer a particular proofreading service or some other service that will charge you a bump to make some minor changes here and there, they may ask you to make changes to your story, number of pages writing style, and so on. updates are not possible after publishing book may get cancelled even after a contract. royalty ranges from 10 to 15% and paid once or twice a year. Now, you may get shocked and say whoa, I didn't know it was so difficult.

Now, let us look at General publishers and bookstores. Now, let us consider Small and Medium publishers and book shops that publish books. Such publishers and book shops will easily agree to publish any book without too many conditions or delays like top publishers. Now, you may jump from your seat and say that's great. I'll contact them immediately. But again, I say Hold on.

The reason is general publishers and book shops will accept any book fleeced new authors with packages costing $250 to $2,000 per book see cost per book based on rates in India. For example, the first row has 390 $9 as the lowest package and 2004 99 as the top most package. In there publishing deal, the second one has 21,000 rupees to about one lakh rupees, the third one is $25 to about $50,790. These are all rates per book. This is expensive for newbies who may want to test the publishing waters with small books. They will only print 202,000 copies and test sales you need to pay again for further printing.

Royalty ranges from 20 to 35% of sale cost. It paid publishing you will never recover the above cost even if every copy sells. So, what can you do? The answer is to self publish. There are two ways to self publish. One is local self publishing and the second one is international self publishing.

Let us first look at local self publishing. Here, you take your manuscript to a local print shop and get it printed at a place minimum copies printed will be about 502,000 copies, then you have to run around to personally distribute and sell to your friends, relatives, booksellers and so on is a tiresome and expensive process. We'll have unsold copies and damages difficult to ship to other states or countries as it will be expensive. This workshop will not cover this method. Now, let us look at international self publishing. In this method, your manuscript will be published by our global sites like Amazon Smashwords, and so on in the method called print on demand.

This course We'll cover this international self publishing. Now let us look at the advantages of this international self publishing speed. You can get your books published in a matter of weeks and months, not years, India's control will have complete control over the layout design, cover page pricing and so on. Profits you normally make more money by self publishing and promoting your own book. With self publishing the royalties range from 30 to 70%. But with traditional publishing it's only about 10 to 15% maximum paperbacks with a concept called print on demand, authors can publish their paperbacks with hardly any cost and make it available worldwide on Amazon ebooks.

Your book will also be available in electronic formats on Kindle, iPad, Kobo nook and so on. You can test the waters you can write small books initially and test the ability to portray yourself as an author quantity You can publish any number of books no rejection unless you write something illegal, no shelf life. Your book will never go out of print, and the author can promote his or her book. Using the unlimited possibilities of the internet changes. You can make quick changes to the book interior cover or price even after publishing. You can also unpublish a book if you don't want it.

Rights you want the rights to your book and can republish it elsewhere without unpublishing it on any other site. promotion, bookstores are not the only places where books are sold. Many authors course buy business books online by searching for the type of books they want. There are hundreds of ways to promote your book, friends, relatives, word of mouth office newsletter, postcards, website email campaigns, Amazon and bookbub. ads and so on. several books that are now international bestsellers were all self published initially by their authors.

Finally, he's It not wise to spend some effort and money to get your manuscript published first, then rather than wait endlessly for an agent or a great publisher, the sooner you have your book worldwide, the faster you can start selling and make money. After all, if your book is really destined to be rejected, let the rejection come from the audience that you intended the bookstore and not get killed midway or delayed endlessly by agents and publishers. Now there are a few drawbacks. You need to learn about the publishing process and formatting the book interiors and covers chances of mistakes creeping in unless you hire an editor to reveal closely you will have to do the marketing for your book. But these are not difficult and can be easily learned. The final advantages heads considering the speed royalty percentages, no rejections and freedom to write what you want.

Self publishing is now becoming highly popular worldwide. We now come to the end of lecture five. Please proceed to the next lecture to continue. Thanks for watching.
