Welcome back to a new lecture where we'll be discussing how to affectively prioritize the tasks you need to get done. Because there's one thing to effectively set goals and specifically lay out what needs to be accomplished. But it's entirely another thing to prioritize the tasks, trust me. Okay, we'll be covering some great tactics that I use and going over some popular two dimensional thinking approach, which is another great tactic to use as well. So without further ado, let's jump right into the lecture. Now to start us on out why exactly is prioritization useful?

Well, because we can get super overwhelmed with our list of to dues okay. This obviously will then lead to complete and utter destruction of productivity. I've been there, you've been there, we've all been there. There will always be something on our to do list. It's inevitable. You have to come to terms of that to do lists Don't go away.

They just get altered throughout our lives. So instead of crumbling at The sight of our to do list and feeling helpless, prioritize. That's it. All you have to do is prioritize your tasks, lockdown the things that 100% needs to be done by a certain deadline and plan accordingly. If tasks don't have deadlines, then you can use a few tools that I have seen some success in to ensure everything important gets done. Now the general prioritize method I go about using is the following.

And this is really just an overview of kind of what we're going to be talking about in a little bit. So bear with me, but first of all, deadlines. As I just mentioned, you have to consider when a certain task 100% needs to be completed by go about scheduling these first because they have hard finish dates. Secondly, go about the worst first technique, which is where you knock out all the tasks that you really, really don't want to do. Trust me, the sooner you get these taken care of the least amount of time and procrastination will occur. This will then boost your productivity levels while avoiding meaningless tasks.

As fillers, just get it done, you know, you need to do it. So just do it Don't beat around the bush, then you're going to want to focus on the tasks that mean the most to you. This just improves your overall satisfaction in life, if you think it's important, and it will impact your life positively, then do it. Okay, it's that simple. And lastly, the tasks I don't even think about doing or what I call the symbols. These are the things that really don't even need to be done.

But they should be done eventually save these for when you have ample amount of time and just don't know what to do during some free time or really just when you're bored. These four questions or steps have really helped me prioritize tasks to stay productive. But another useful technique, which is fairly popular is the two dimensional thinking approach. Essentially, you would grade each task on a typical x and y axis system. And you pretty much have how important the task is on the y axis and how urgent it is on the x axis. You need to add a quantifiable element To your graph to ensure accuracy, bam, this simple rate the importance of each task out of 10 and throw some days on the urgency x axis to quantify your graph.

Then you just plot your tasks on the graph to determine which tasks should be done first, for example, each one of these dots would have data to back up why they were placed where they were. So these dots are the ones you can prioritize for later. These have a low importance rating and they don't really need to be done for another few months, so you don't have to worry about them too much. However, these dots need to be prioritized immediately. They need to be done with a high sense of urgency, and they are incredibly important. So you can see how this simple tool can allow you to organize your thoughts a little more effectively.

This helps prioritization a ton. Oh, and if you want to take it one step further, you can utilize Rory vaden Read dimensional thinking, where he factors in significance in addition to the importance and urgency. So not only how soon does it matter, and how much does it matter, but how long does it matter, I personally use this method. But it can be a little intense if you're new and just getting into this. So reading tasks based off of these three attributes, can sometimes skew some numbers and be a little bit too complicated. So I recommend you test out the two dimensional thinking approach first, then upgrade to the 3d once you feel a little more comfortable.

But that'll bring us to the end of this lecture. Hopefully, you learn some tools to not only prioritize tasks, but you have effectively prioritize tasks. It's not as easy as it looks. And it takes some serious self discipline. Because at the end of the day, we can prioritize what we need to do correctly, but it's really up to you to be disciplined to carry it out that way. Stay focused and don't always do the easiest things first.

Now that you have these tools, you Just need to get yourself in the right mentality. And you'll succeed, I promise, but again, carry on with me as we learn some other techniques for boosting our productivity in the next lecture.
