Welcome back to a new, fairly brief lecture where we'll be going over sleep. Now, this is just an overview of what we'll dive into during our next lecture. But nonetheless, this is still very important stuff. I'm going to be giving you eight reasons why waking up early is the way to go. regardless of if you think you're more productive in the evening versus the morning. Again, this is just an intro into sleep and how we should effectively be capitalizing on it.

But here we go. Now, how early is early? Well, it really just depends on your work schedule, but I consider early to be any time that's earlier than the average. And what's the average you mask? Well, according to Edison research, the average time people wake up is shown here. As you can see, most people wake up between six and 6:30am.

So how early is early before 6am I guess? I know everyone's schedules are vastly different. But the reason I say to wake up before everyone else is because you get a head start on the day. And the point I'm trying to make is the fact that by noon, you've had so much more time to accomplish goals and finish tasks in comparison to your competitors. Thus, this gives you the lead, then they have to play catch up on the day and you get to continue at a steady productive pace. Now, I think this might sound a little bit off to you, but here's eight reasons that help back up this thought process and just really promote waking up early.

Number one, the best one out of the eight morning people don't put off till tomorrow, what they can do today. In a study done by the University of Toronto, researchers found that they evening type of people are much more likely to procrastinate and struggle financially. Procrastination is a bad habit. It's terrible. So if there's something you need help breaking it recommend waking up early and seeing if anything changes. This one is huge.

If you had to end the lecture right now, I wouldn't even be mad because this in and of itself should be the number one reason why you wake up early. But number two is a fun one because waking up early and being more of a morning person will make you way more positive. Scientists wanted to test whether or not positivity levels were boosted in morning people. Now after significant data was collected, they hypothesized that positivity was linked to your circadian rhythm, aka your internal clock. So you know the specific times the day where you always feel energized or you always feel tired. Yep, that's your circadian rhythm.

This next one is no joke. We've all heard the saying if you snooze, you lose. Right? Well, that couldn't be more true. fragmented. Sleep happens when you wake up, and then hit the snooze button in drift back into your dreams.

This crushes your sleep cycles and sleep cycles are super important because when your cycle is crushed, a call As drowsiness, which ultimately leads to your productivity going down the drain. The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that the fragmented sleep causes increased exhaustion throughout the day. So rip the dang Band Aid off and get your booty out of bed. Number four brings us to health reasons psychiatrists have identified that majority of their depressed patients are night owls, to people who prefer organizing their activities and sleep patterns toward the evening are usually at a higher risk of depression. One of the reasons being is the fact that is darker at night, and when you're alone in the dark for extended periods of time, you feel helpless, but if you're alone in the light, it's a completely different story. Number five is about how the good old early bird gets the worm this couldn't be more spot on, biologist Christoph rattler surveyed 367 students.

In doing so he found that traits of successful individuals include higher IQs proactive mind sets and tendencies to wake up before most other individuals coincidence? I don't think so. most traditional business masterminds have always gotten in the habit of waking up early. Christopher Adler also found that night owls tend to be more creative people with a stronger sense of humor, right brain focus, essentially, this is not to say that creative people can be successful. It's just saying that left brain focused individuals are more likely to be successful in regards to statistics. And number six is an interesting one as well to most people, but I bet you didn't know that waking up early.

Actually benefits your health as you grow older. According to Rene bis and Lynn hashers. Research, the and I quote, the greater morning sickness tendencies among older adults may contribute to their improved well being relative to younger adults. Essentially, getting into a good habit of waking up early when you're young will benefit you As your body starts to age, and this is really just a cool bonus to waking up early, bringing us to number seven, which is a great one for those of you who are trying to be a little more fit. Scientists at Northwestern found that individuals that woke up and enjoyed the sunlight earlier in the day tended to have lower body mass indexes. The study didn't dive too deep into why this was the case.

But I think it's due to the fact that productivity levels are higher in morning people. Thus, this allows for them to have more time in the day to maybe even hit the gym or go for a morning jog. See where we're going out here. And lastly, Number eight is the fact that bad habits have a hard time waking up as well. So odds are bad habits will go away in the morning. We're talking about smoking or drinking or those types of activities.

It's a lot easier to drink a few beers or toss back some martinis at night. If you're about to go to bed to sleep off the buzzer. drunkness. Right. Well, it's a little different if you wake up at 5:30am unless you're a college student on game day, you're less likely to be slamming some beers as this is rising, not only can productivity be boosted, but health is a big deal as well. And that brings us to the end of this lecture.

Again, this lecture wasn't necessarily meant to blow your mind. But there are tons of benefits to getting up early. I will say that since I've been waking up early, I've been 200% more productive. There are zero distractions in the morning while everyone else is sleeping. Not only does this keep me focused, but it gets me in the right mindset to dominate the day. And again, I know nobody likes waking up early.

I don't even like waking up early, but it could really turn your life around. I recommend at least giving this shot for a week or two just to see what happens. Get your internal clock used to waking up early, and I guarantee you won't regret it. But again, this next lecture goes hand in hand with this one, it might make your life a bit easier when it comes to waking up early. So I'll definitely see you in the next lecture as we continue on this topic of sleep and getting the most out of it. So I'll see you soon
