Welcome back, we'll now be going over the third component of tempo methodology, which is manage. Now in previous lectures, we talked about testing and evaluating, which essentially set us up for this phase. So let's get started. In this stage of tempo methodology, we're going to actually make changes to our surroundings and habitual area to allow for more efficiency in achieving our goals. Essentially, we're going to focus on deleting the things that spark momentum killers. This will then set us up for higher chances to succeed.
Now we're going to go through some examples, then I'll actually utilize this in conjunction with my notes about my day. First of all, what exactly are momentum killers? Well, they're basically anything in your life that kills your momentum or slows your progress down. Now there are millions of momentum killers in some things we just have to live with. But there are some luxuries that we can definitely cut out of our lives, or at least limit the use of them heavily if we want to be productive. Examples are like Netflix and video games.
I know we love those things so much, but they absolutely crush our productivity levels. According to research done by Business Insider, the average Netflix subscriber watches Netflix for about two hours a day, two hours. That's 14 hours a week and 56 hours a month. Are you kidding me? That's more than the average person's workweek. I mean, you've got to think about this for a second.
There is a time and a place for momentum killers. But if you're struggling to stay productive and efficient, I mean, you've just absolutely got to cut these things out. And again, the Manage stage of tempo is all about setting up your environment for you to succeed. So cancel those Netflix subscriptions or install them Video games, deactivate social media etc. For just one week, one week and see what happens, I guarantee you'll be 100 times more efficient with your time. And don't just think you're not going to use those things.
If they're available for you to use, you're going to end up using them, so cut them out of your life. But okay, let's pull up my notes again from the test day on July 16. Now, again, I say this every single time because it's actually important, but you'll have lots more information to dive into and work with when you're doing this on your own. Okay, but you know, time is money. So let's keep this short and sweet. All right.
So previously, we marked down that we liked and what we didn't like about our day. Now it's time to dive in and make some changes in our life to turn the red dots into green dots. So what was slowing me down in red? Well, as we previously mentioned, it could have been a lack of energy at the end of the day, or maybe some other miscellaneous reasons. I would have had more detailed notes, but let's just say the process of my YouTube work was really lacking because that was a bit distracted in lagged on complex tasks. So what can we do about that?
Well, I'm most likely was messing around on social media for too long. I mean, you know replying to comments, checking Twitter feed, replying to often maybe even watching other YouTube videos are fun, you know, etc, etc. Plus, I was probably struggling with some editing or you know, wasting too much time in the thumbnail process. So, what do we do with these distractions in the struggles in our schedule, manage, we manage these and make changes to our environment that will set us up for success and lead into our next phase of tempo. so in this situation, I would exit out of all social media and actually sometimes I unplugged my Wi Fi at times. So I definitely can't go on social media, you know, unless I go through the process of plugging my ethernet cord back in waiting for the router to boot etc, etc.
But simple steps like these make a huge difference. Huge difference. As we're increasing efficiencies and thumbnails and editing and whatnot, I can actually make templates. So thumbnail creation and video edit, stay as streamlined as possible. It's all about your specific situation and making this changes. And again, it's just simple steps like these that can impact your productivity levels.
So dang well, plus the Manage stage isn't even the biggest component of tempo methodology. It's only a stepping stone to really boost your productivity levels. So continue on with me as you take a look at the next stage in the process, which will put these managing techniques to good use. So I'll see you then.
