DESCRIPTION: The visual memory allows us to hold the information in our minds long enough to enable deeper analysis. [We address the analysis in the masterclasses, the subject is too big for the minicourse.] We cannot rely on it for long-term memorization. If we do nothing, we will remember very little even a week after reading. A very similar process can be applied during research, conversations, or learning from videos. Some of the subjects we briefly mention here will be addressed in the next chapters. People often ignore the long-term retention aspects of the reading. Most people hardly remember 5% of what they read a week after reading it. For someone skilled in speedreading, the effort of analysis of the text and long-term retention of the text often takes more time than the reading.
