Before you speed up the reading, you should really do your best to read with 100% retention. Please notice, that when you read with 100% retention, you read slower than your regular speed. It takes some time to mark and memorize the words you need, at least at the beginning.
Most people try to cut corners here. It is important to preserve all the information you need in the form of a mindmap or mental palace or equivalent.
How much information can a single marker hold? A PAO marker holds a subject, an object, and an action. Each subject and object can hold at least three additional details. Basically, this means that you can encode 9 words into a single visualization. Most of the texts we read require 2-3 visualizations per paragraph. This means you can memorize around 15% of the words in the paragraph. The actual number may vary widely, but if you think that one word per paragraph is enough - probably you should not read the particular document.
