Hi, I'm Tony factory thank you for joining me today on these video blog entitled living the lessons. Today's lesson is how to control your emotions. So once again three principles to take away and put into action. So the first principle is name and tame the emotion in order to control your emotions. So name and tame the emotions is a principle derived from Daniel Siegel's book, mind sight which I urge you to read. Now name and time the emotion invites you to feel the emotions rather than identify with it.
So as an example, if you are angry rather than label the anger such as I am angry, it would be beneficial to say I feel In that way, what you are doing is inviting the emotion to move through you remember and emotion is energy in motion. So we want to keep the energy moving through us flowing through us. Principle number two, move into your body. Now what move into your body invites you to do is feel the emotion and located center. Is it in the throat? Is it in the head?
Is it in the chest? Is it in the abdomen? Is it anywhere else? What does the emotion feel like? Is it growing? Is it expanding?
Does it have a color? Does it have an intensity? What's it inviting you to know or seek of itself and then breathe into it use pure awareness. Now pure awareness is your natural state. It's what allows you to recognize the color of a tree as being green. use that same awareness and just watch the emotion.
Be with it. Don't Try to get rid of it. Don't try to remove it. Simply be in breathe into the emotion breathe into the area, and soon enough that emotion will dissipate. And that leads us to the final point, exercise, undertake exercise. Exercise rather has been shown to improve and allow the emotion to move through us.
And as an example, brain scientists, Jill Bolte Taylor suggests that the average time that it takes for an emotion to move through the nervous system is one and a half minutes. Now think about it. Some of us have been holding on to disempowering emotions for almost a decade, and yet it takes as little as one and a half minutes. So if we process the emotion with compassion, with an open heart and with pure awareness, that emotion can move through us in very little time. Thank you for joining Once again on this brief video on living the lessons Today's lesson is titled How to control your emotions. Thank you once again, my name is Tony Packer.
