ESM 17.0 - Utilizing principles as a foundation for safety is the17th of 25 distinct and separate courses, referenced as Executive Safety Minutes (ESMs), available that teach the student how to be strategic in creating a plan to improve and/or maintain safety performance.
Being strategic is important because if one does not get the big picture strategy right the tactics may not be effective and ultimately prove to be a lost resource.

Recognizing that your safety plan is only as good as the foundation that it is built upon, this safety minute shares the experience proven strategy that comes with a principles-based approach. This Executive Safety Minute:
Starts with a demonstration of the links between, vision, principles, and the execution plan,
Is followed by twelve (12) unique safety principles, and
Finishes with linking those safety principles to leadership behaviors.
