DESCRIPTION:

Optimizing Mechanical Efficiency Aka Economy
Economy links your sustainable VO2 to your performance velocity. Probably the best predictor of endurance performance is the power you can produce at each of your thresholds (e.g., AeT and AT). Your Economy score is determined by evaluating your actual VO2 L/min at your thresholds against your calculated VO2 based on the power or velocity output you achieved at each threshold. In our lab testing, we track this ratio. An Economy ratio below 1.0 suggests that you are mechanically more efficient than predicted for the workload that you have achieved. We use this ratio to compare your test results over time to see how much of your improvement is related to economic changes.

Training Strategies: To Improve Economy

Spending more time on the road (cyclist, runners), in the water (swimmers), or on the water (paddlers) will work to optimize the economy of your motion – especially if proper form is practiced and maintained.
