According to public speaking experts, there are three main steps for designing and delivering an ideal speech, prepared to speech, memorize the speech and deliver the speech. The preparation step is the most important one, fully 90% of your success as a speaker will be determined by how well you plan your speech. Preparation is immediately obvious to any audience, increases your credibility and your confidence. As Mark Twain once said, it usually takes more than three weeks to prepare a good impromptu speech. So first of all, you need to prepare the speech which evolves. First audience, the starting point of your preparation is your audience.

Remember, it is not about you, it is about them. You need to determine who your audience is. and customize your writing accordingly. Second, decide what is the purpose of your speech and your main message. The general purpose of any speech will be either to inform, motivate, or entertain your audience. As soon as you know the general purpose of your speech, you can develop your specific purpose statement.

Restrict your specific purpose to one idea only. The main message is the heart of your speech. The one thing that if nothing else the audience will remember. With a clear and concise key message, you are able to communicate what really matters. Once you have your key message clear, it makes it much easier to craft your speech around it. Third, research the topic.

Researching your topic and providing strong evidence for your claims will make your speech more powerful. Increase your credibility as a speaker and help you achieve your goals. Fourth, brainstorm categorize and organize the ideas in order to create a structure for the speech. And fifth, write out the speech sentence by sentence. When your speech is ready, you will need to memorize it so you can remember it when you will be in front of your audience. As you will see in this course, the memory techniques are not only used to memorize the speech, but they are also used in other status during the process of designing and delivering your speech or presentation.
