DESCRIPTION:
Children are not designed to be in a single activity continuously over a long period of time. Kids will get burned out and quit.  When sports becomes an obligation or feels like a job and they have to do it, kids will start to lose interest. The lessons that sports teach can also be taught in other realms of life as well.
Society has brainwashed us into thinking that if our child isn’t in a particular sport they will fall behind the other kids who are playing year-round. The truth is that in the short term they may fall behind, but if we look at the long term and take into account that 70% of kids stop playing at 13, your child might actually be on the course right now. The age of 13 is when most kids really start to develop higher levels of abilities and skill acquisition combined with persistence improves much more rapidly.
When children are young, emphasize having fun and giving their best effort. Praise them when they try their hardest, not just when something good happens....
