Okay, so I thought it'd be good to go over some of Camtasia shortcuts and hotkeys. I'm going to explain a lot of the most important ones. Of course, this is a list that is pretty long and detailed because there is a lot that you can actually do and shortcut inside of Camtasia. Not including the ability to customize different buttons so that the mapping on your keyboard is different. So again, we always begin what's a hotkey, a hotkey is just basically a shortcut that's going to allow you to create this feature, whether it be something like a split, or cutting or pasting or copying or pausing or starting or stopping. All of those things can be usually done on your keyboard so that you don't have to mouse around, go through different details.

It really saves a lot of time, especially when you end up using Camtasia on a daily basis. So a lot of the things that you're going to use inside of Windows is known as a Sticky Key which can be Your shift your Ctrl or your alt keys. Now, if you don't know where those are at, just go ahead and familiarize yourself look down at your keyboard, see where it's at. Usually, most keyboards are mapped pretty similar, I have a different keyboard because I have an ergonomic one called the kinesis. So my mapping is a little different, I won't show you, but most times, you're going to find your shift key, even near your enter and your space key. And also the same for the shift or the controlling the alt keys.

Now, each of these pressed in unison, maybe with another key, say shift Control F one or j, those are going to bring up different features, depending on what Sticky Keys you press alongside those normal keys that you may use. So I'm going to get into a few things. There's mnemonics that you can actually use include that. I'm not going to really go over it here, but it just lets you know a few things that you can keep in mind in order to open up new things or ideas. The most common recorder hotkeys that you're going to end up using are f nine and F 10. And that's to pause and to stop your recording feature.

Outside of that, you're going to be using Ctrl M for markers. I've explained this before the markers are going to be used in order to let you know, hey, I need to make an edit here, I need to do something in post production, either an annotation, adding in a picture cut to someone else, different audio or video. It's just a marker, it's let you know something should be done here. Then you can screen draw, but you should know that when you screen draw, you can just use your mouse or kind of as a pencil or pen. You can draw around things and you know, say hey, look at these hotkeys right here and it'll draw up really just like a marker or a red pen or whatever you choose as your draw feature. It will bring that up allow you to do that on the go.

Outside of that you can change the default settings by going to the hotkeys tab. Any of these things can be changed to anything else that you want. It doesn't have to be f nine or F 10. If that's something already assigned on your keyboard for something else, that's important. Go ahead and add, you know, a controller a shift or Alt key so that way you can stick them and make sure that you tell your computer This is different than the standard f nine or F 10 keys that I'm using on my keyboard. And then other things you can add in our PowerPoint.

There's the normal stickies here, which is Ctrl Shift, and it's just going to be the same f nine or F 10. On top of that, when you have playback features, there's a few different playback hotkeys that you can actually use, such as previous clip. next clip the spacebar is my favorite because that's pretty universal for most players the pause play button, you can obviously go forward, skip to the next clip. All of these things can usually appear to be customized, but I'm going to let you know that with the editor these cannot be I've already made note of that for you Same with the editor timeline navigation, these are for your benefit anyways, it could get very messy very quick when you use the timeline navigation and start customizing. So will it be a little bit of a walkthrough in order to actually learn which hotkeys you use?

Yes, but what I suggest doing is memorizing the most common ones, maybe your zoom ins, your zoom out, and your zoom to fits. That's about what I would do when it comes to editing or being able to see inside the dashboard, my video player and my preview. I may even select between markers or jump to one marker between the next a good reason for that is you don't want to go through your entire maybe you record for an hour, two hours, it's a long presentation. You don't want to stick. Stick yourself in the situation where you have to go through that entire one or two hours to find just a couple markers instead. You can actually just jump to them with the shortcut, the hotkey here, or the shortcut.

Additionally, there's other effects and elements that you can use. I already went through these inside of each one of the videos that I made, whether you're doing call outs, captions, or transitions. Usually the hotkey is just exactly what it is mnemonic, if you want to call out C, if you want to zoom z, if you want to transition t if you want to marker m if you want to split s, so it's very mnemonic in the sense of remember what these words begin with. If English isn't your first language, then that's going to be a little bit more tough. Camtasia does have also training inside other languages. If you have your shortcut keys, maybe in Russian, you know the characters of the alphabets are completely different, but you happen to speak English, so I get how that occurs sometimes.

With that being said, you can change everything back to default so that way if you ever end up screwing anything up. I've done that a couple times with hotkeys. I just add and get to how should I say, too invasive inside of it, I don't keep it defaulted. And I try and make it you know, something, oh, this will be easy, easier for me to remember. And sometimes you'll over map different keys. And that's a very bad thing to do.

Because sometimes you'll have something where you'll start your player, but then you know, it'll start cutting or creating marks, I just suggest that you keep the default except for the start and stop keys. When it comes to the menu maker. Again, these aren't customizable either, but that's quite alright because these are universal. Most these are the same Ctrl N opens up a new project, whether you're in Word, or you're inside a new window or anything. A lot of programs have these shortcuts so they keep them the same. Same thing for the theater key.

The player hotkeys are the exact same as well. So I'm not really going to go through too many of these except a few. You may want Such as full screen all enter, increase or decreasing the volume or even muting. And then you have your generic hotkeys. And again, this works in most Windows applications. Here's the reason why they've kept a lot of these keys defaulted.

Inside Camtasia is because of these generic hotkeys that work pretty much all across all windows programs and applications. Finally, when you do screen draw, I want you to know that when you do screen draw, you cannot post production, edit your screen draw, things that you did, that is basically pre rendered and inserted inside your tr EC recording or your Camtasia recording called a track. That's just something that naturally comes with the territory. So if you do screen draw, do be aware that it's permanent, whatever you draw, that's done. Now obviously, it's not permanent in the sense of on your screen, it's permanent. In the sense of on your recording, whatever you drew, you can erase that drawing, but that you drawing it erasing it, that whole event will be inside of your recording, you can't, you know, take away that drawing and say, oops, I misplaced and I circled the wrong thing.

And I just need to move it down one inch, you can't do that. So just keep that in mind. With that being said, the other last ones that I like to keep in mind are the biggest ones. Basically, undo redo exit the screen draw, how to enable the screen draw. And of course, if you want some of the shapes, one of my favorite ones is obviously the pen, the arrow, which again, these are just mnemonics, and then I'll do something like a frame, which usually draws like a box or I can even highlight. That being said, those are the main Camtasia short keys or hotkeys that you should get to know yourself get get to know a little bit better because, like I said, it may seem like oh, it's just enabling me to do something a little bit quicker by a few seconds, but you compound that hundreds of times over and you save hours of work with learning these shortcut keys.

So it is pertinent to your success in becoming an editor that is efficient at doing what they do.
