Are you and your honey butter is all over now. Let's go through and figure out how to play sugar babe. What I'm going to do is just teach you what he plays over each of the chords and then we'll we'll put it all together. So to start out, he's playing over the E core, and you're going to hear this. What I've got is a six for alternating bass and then I'm playing a little figure over the treble strings. Like that.
The easiest way to figure this out is knowing that the first lick is a pinch the open sixth string, and the third string and as I pinch the third string, I'm going to hammer on to the first fret with my first finger, my second, first finger so check the tab And then with my first finger playing that melody. So we started out with the pinch. And that's what we play over the one one more time. Check the tab and watch that again, if you don't, if you don't get it, the key to that, again is starting out with that pin. And that'll get you going so your fingers will, will work together we'll get to the a, what we're going to do is hammer on a whole chord change a chord that I showed you in the first lecture here with the open fifth string, and we're going to get really the second string fifth and second string pinch but I'm hammering the whole chord shape down like that and my bass over the a is going to be five, four.
So we got to get the open first string one more time. Then I'm going to add that by putting my pinky on the second fret of the first string, and then hammering on with my ring finger back into that a chord shape. And then the open first string again, so so the whole part played over the four. Then we're gonna go back to the one with that same pen again. So the whole thing so far, let's just play it slowly. I'll try to play it slowly from the one And then right here, we're just gonna make a B seventh chord.
We got our five for bass, pinching the fifth string and the second string, which is open playing that. So my left hand is just holding the B seventh chord. And my first finger is going back and forth on the third and second string. Second, second, and third. We go back to the E. If you listen, you know there's so many versions of the song that he did. The one that I'm basing this lesson on when he goes back to the one he just kind of plays the bass, the six, four.
He doesn't do any Doesn't make no play anything on the trebles just so let's play the simple verse of sugar Bay one time all the way through. I'll go through it maybe two or three times I'll try to play it slow. There you have the simple verse for sugar babe by man slips cup now it does some variations and we'll get into that here.
