DESCRIPTION: Knowing your values, ethics, morals, and beliefs are very important to be able to know who you truly are. Until you know this information, you may not have a good foundation to understand your identity. This understanding helps us to find our way through relationships. It provides us with our own separate identity so that we do not take on the identity of others when in a relationship that is often toxic. Ask yourself, what is my belief system? Do I do things for fear of losing my relationship? Am I afraid to be alone? The answers to these questions may surprise you as well as give you insight into your own identity.
When you are in a toxic relationship you do not see your value. This blindness prevents you from seeing who you are. You cannot have value until you have an identity. When you are in toxic relationships, you tend to research your partner's issues, trying to understand their programming.
